Like I said. I'm going from memory from many years ago, though I never said they used a 100 meter tape, and I saw them pulling the tape tight.
At this point I've made my case and I'll turn over any future questions with regard to tape measurement to the On Course Rating guys so that I don't misrepresent what they are doing. They can defend their methodology better than I can.
For those who think there's a better way to do it I encourage you to go out and measure a course using a tape multiple times, and then measure it with your favorite method multiple times. After that if you are convinced that you have a more accurate way to measure a course please let us know.
For my part, if I get the chance to measure Detweiller again, I'll measure it going both ways and let you know what I come up with.
