Why are you so in love with this workout? Been around a lot of places in the world and haven´t seen any other nation so in love with one particular workout. Why not the same hype about repeats or fartleks?

Physiology stupid
Because tempo runs are the single most important hard workout for long distance runners.

The first two responses prove the OP's point. Tempos are massively overrated and overanalyzed probably thanks in part to Jack Daniels.
Considering the extent to which repeats have been abused at the HS/College level as quick fixes detrimental to long-term development, I'd say tempos/LT runs/fast relaxed runs/whatever the hell you want to call them are overlooked at times.
I imagine people all over the world have always done tempos but they don't call it a tempo. It's just a comfortable brisk run, or hammering the last few miles when you feel good.

The fact that you use the words "tempo" and "hard" in the same sentence reveals that you have no idea what you're talking about
The American Tempo Run is necessary to build your AEROBIC HOUSE.
The American Tempo is the biggest reason AMerica has become the BEST nonAfrican distance running country. No other non African country can match our depth.

No, America has more depth because it is bigger. Countries like NZ and Australia are way better.
No it isnt.
Account... Alabama has a point. I ask runners whom may race at a similar pace if they want to do a 5x2000m or 6x1200m workout. I'll get, "Not necessary. I do tempo runs."

Dammmmmmn... Hate to give you two in two minutes but there you go :P
please God tell me you are joking.
Anecdotal evidence here. Personally I never realized my full potential until starting to run threshold or tempo type runs. Ran for a coach that had us run high mileage and hammer repeats 3-4x per week. This worked well for slow twitchers and guys with a strong aerobic base. Fast twitchers not so much. Senior year I began running 6-8 mile threshold runs and made a big jump. Was always weak aerobically and this helped.

You just used "tempo" and "hard" in the same sentence yourself.

Please. Colorado could beat a combined NZ and Australia team. Both men and women.
Which brings me to my next point. Colorado and Adams State use the American Tempo as a major component of training. The exercise physiology and science have been proven. The American Tempo Run is necessary for SUCCESS.
What is an example of a tempo run? For a 5000m or 10k runner.
Thanks you.

Mottram was much faster than Goucher.

You are an idiot! Substitute "workout" with "training session" if you are too stupid to understand what I mean. I know very well that a tempo run isn´t supposed to be as hard as an interval session.

You are not very smart, are you? Colorado attracts runners from the entire country.
