Great smart post. NCAA Lagat could have destroyed Cheserek or Rupp on 50 mpw, for example.

Too optimistic wrote:He has a chance, but he's already lost multiple times this season to people that aren't as good as Cheserek- namely Marc Scott and Tommy Curtin. I'd bet on 5th-7th for him, with an off chance at being as high as 2nd or as low as 9th.
Tommy Curtin beat Ches at pre Nats. Your argument makes it seem like Ches is unstoppable but he has already lost this season in a major race. Knight can and will challenge the king
Runnerbro what you seem to lack is the ability to look at how that race played out. Maybe you didn't watch it but Ches gave too much ground to Tommy Curtin before he attempted to catch back up to him. Ches is the man to beat, don't think he is going to give someone that much room again at the most important race of the season for him. He will cover any move made after 4k, only hope is that someone goes out really hard early and ches lets them get too far out again. That is a tough strategy and I don't think anyone can pull that off.(someone has to pull a sam chelanga) Ches has to have a bad day or not be at full strength and one of the other guys has to race even better then they have this year so far. Knight is good for a top 10 if he runs well but ches and a few other guys would need to have bad days for knight to finish top 4. I predict Knight finishes between 5th-10th and if I have to pick an exact spot I give him 8th. Lot of good guys in the field Knight is good but won't be until next year that we start talking about him for a top 3 spot. Another thing to consider is Ches is running more mileage and is likely to have recovered better from his 10k at regionals than anyone else. It is also likely that he spent less energy on his win then knight did at regionals. It's important to remember that while most of us would love to see Ches get beat, a miracle is needed for that to happen.
yes but the race is an 8k not 8k + 400m. Curtin crossed the finish line first. end of story. Im not saying he is going to repeat but he is capable of doing it and also of beating every one in the field and he has proved it over his past 2 races.
Im not saying that Curtin is better than Ches. I know that Ches was there to see the course and race against Rotich and see who had the better kick or whatnot. But Ches did make a mistake. he let Curtin form that gap and didnt think to catch up till it was too late. Could he have won if he made a move sooner? yes. But did he? no. Also you said that to win someone is going to have to get a big lead and that you dont see someone pulling that off. NEWS FLASH: CURTIN ALREADY DID THIS. Your response is very contradictory so its hard for me to see where you stand on this?
How are people saying that the only reason Curtain one was because of poor racing tactics by Ches...THAT IS RACING. Curtain out smarted Ches, and deserves that win and was the better runner that day. Curtain won that race, Ches lost.
Justyn Knight is legit, he is still has one more year to go before he wins, just one though, but he will be the outdoor 5k champ come spring mark my words.

Didn't Ches lose earlier this year also?? The person who beat him didn't Knight beat that guy at Big East championships?
Just a thought
EPIC fail OP
Justyn Knight beat Shaun Thompson at ACCs
Shaun Thompson beat Thomas Curtin at Princeton Inter Regional
Thomas Curtin beat Edward Cheserek at Pre-Nats
Itso Fatso - Knight > Ches.
Actually anyone who beat Shaun Thompson during the season will beat Ches.
He is the key.
Thomas Curtin beat Edward Cheserek at Pre-Nats
Thomas Curtin beat Justyn Kights and Shaun Thompson at ACCs
But! Shaun Thompson beat Thomas Curtin at Princeton Inter Regional.
Therefore Thomas Curtin and Shaun Thompson are .clearly equivalent and greater than Cheserek in a partial ordering of collegiate runners.
Shaun Thompson wins NCAAs. QED
What he is saying is Curtin hot his one chance to make a break away. Ches won't let that happen again. Nor will the field. You could maybe see an OSU guy or someone from ole miss allowed to get a small lead.
LOL, "itso fatso". This is POD.

I am talking about nationals not a race that happened earlier in the year. Curtin did pull this off and congrats to him but now he is on Ches radar. Also that was a meet that meant nothing to ches, would he have like to won yes but he made a mistake and I don't see him doing that at the biggest meet of the year. Ches is great and every so often the greats need a reminder that they are not invincible. Ches should thank Curtin for reminding him of that once he wins NCAAs. Also my post is not contradictory b/c Curtin didn't do this at the meet that matters most. Also let me clear up where I stand, I would like to see someone beat ches however I think the odds are slim. Only one strategy has worked to beat him so far this year and you can bet he won't allow himself to lose the same way again. Like I previously said it will take an amazing day from one of the other challengers and ches having an off day.
4th overall plus a team title..guess running hundreds of miles a week isn't the answer..keeping yourself fresh for the final race is all that matters..best sophomore and will be champion once Ches graduates..once again Knight is the real deal whether you want to beleive it or not...he is now up there with The best Canadians at the NCAA of all time...

No one wins NCAA XC off of 50 miles a week.
If he doesn't hit a consistent 70-80 mpw before the start of next year's XC season then the best he can hope to be is a "somewhere in the top 10" guy, not a legit contender for the win.
Man you are looking stupid now.

He does not understand tactics. He won't beat them at their game. He will let them fight their fight.
I wish he was a smarter race as I am from his city.
This might be the worst post/prediction on Letsrun this year.
