What a JOKE.... It looks like SEC has a legitimate reason (they can only miss school during exams to compete against other SEC schools) why they can't go to Penn. I assume the others do not.

Ridiculous.
Shameful: LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky all skipping Penn/Drake this year to run at LSU

There has been an increase of grumblings over the last number of years with the way that the Penn Relays has been run. Complaints I've heard include that there are too many over zealous officials, moving/combining races with little to no warning, no appropriate warm up areas, forcing athletes to remove sweats far in advance just to stand in the cold paddock. Many little things that make it a frustrating experience for coaches and athletes. I think this is reflected in the move of teams away from this event.
Shaver says this is purely just due to a scheduling conflict but I'm willing to bet there is a chance that this is a permanent thing. -
Penn is a zoo.
-
As a one time Hog, this literally hurts my heart.
-
All the things that sell out stadiums and make for exciting television.
-
I think the greater chance for good weather at LSU in April is a big part of this. Particularly desirable for sprint powerhouses.
OP, You said the SEC schools seem to have a legit reason. Do you realize that you only listed SEC schools? So I don't know who you're mad at. From the teams listed in the article, Miami? -

Please change the title from shameful to LOGICAL. If you have a clue, you would also keep your pie hole shut.

Southern T&F has to take up the challenge to make money due to rumors of the Netflix Olympics Quad Sports Group which will tear out four of the PAC-12's teams in the State of Calfornia reducing to 8 schools.

Stick it. These schools have every right to not deal with the logistics of travel to the Midwest or northeast. It's expensive and time consuming during a hectic part of the school year. It should allow for a solid effort before dealing with conference meets. Let these regions develop some sprint talent rather than depend on the southeast to provide it.

The Penn Relays is a high school meet with some college races crammed in. You know that right?
-
Bucknam sucks. Look at how he has ruined the Tyson Invite. Arkansas ain't Arkansas.
-
I love Penn but can see why schools no longer want to participate. For reasons mentioned above plus travel cost and bad weather.
-
Ha!
High school officials and angry volunteers barking at college runners.
Constant threats of disqualifications (constant).
Awful experiences for these teams.
Time to turn the page.
Bring back Cosby.....ha. -
Good point about those over zealous officials. They love to bark and somewhat a corrupt bunch. I recall instances where they DQ college teams and it was clearly BS. Thankfully a few of those calls were overturned due to film proof. Those guys can have it... Enjoy the sorry atmosphere you created, but that is right on course for the liberal northeast..

Hah! Netflix is the lightweight here. Sony, Amazon, Bing/Microsoft will likely be selected. -

I assume you're talking about Penn (never ran there) and not Drake (always had good experiences with how the meet was run). -
Every school mentioned is an SEC school right?
So what is the OP complaining about? The way I read it is the schools can only go to another SEC school to compete that weekend. Am I reading something wrong? -
They all scared of getting beat by Oregon I guess :) GO DUCKS
-
I don't think Florida has been at Penn for a number of years.
Anyways its a good move for those squads. Th LSU meet is 1 day. Penn is a long meet. If your a stud sprinter your running
Prelims 4x1, 4x2, Open 100 or 100/110HH
Finals 4x1, 4x2, Finals 100 or 100/110HH
Maybe a 4x4 or a sprint medley.
Six Warm ups, cool downs and races in 3 days and most often the temperature is not sprint friendly.
Lets be honest that the next two years are important. Rio and London World Champs. A lot of the old guard in the sprints are on the decline. Good chance for the SEC schools to try and get someone into the mix.
You could argue that these schools have always done this style of schedule but maybe they don't want to take a chance with the weather and the heavy schedule.
