Looking at today's regional results, it was a very poor showing for Colorado. They may still win, but they are not really a shoe in for the victory.

Obviously they weren't going all out, but I do agree they shouldn't be the favorite. I think Stanford will take it. Side note, how much does it suck to be the #7 guy on a team (Forsyth), then get bumped from the regional meet because one of your team's studs is finally able to race?
CU absolutely jogged today. Two years ago they were beaten by NAU at Regionals and won Nats. They'll be fine.

Syracuse #4 and #5 runners are still an issue, so Colorado might still take it. Lennon ran his best race of the year, but it was still weak. Hubbard bounced back from his bad performance at ACC, but he also was not near the leaders at the end. Both Hubbard and Lennon lost a lot of ground to the leaders in the last 2km.
Can a team which is presently ranked out of the top 4 in the ranking take the win at NCAA?
Did they? Usually when a team jogs, they all run together. Today, they were very split up. They didn't beat UTEP and BYU by that many points. Were they willing to risk not getting an auto selection?

I noticed that too. Same thing happened in a D2 regional race I watched last weekend. People on here said the team was taking it easy, but I saw the D2 team's pack split up and struggle. Looking at the CU results I wondered if the same thing happened.

Did anyone even notice that they pulled Ben S. out of a possible RS season? With Ben back in the line-up and the rest of the returners, you're absolutely crazy not to call them the favorites! Go CU!
Trust me, CU put forth as little effort as possible today. They could have finished 6th or 7th in this Regional and likely still had enough Kolas points to qualify. So no, they were not too worried, I suspect.
I was shocked to see them pull the redshirt off of Saarel and he was 6th on the team. Did they misjudge his fitness? Does he not want a 5th year?

So CU didn't have a great day and won, but they aren't the favorite to a Stanford team that lost to Washington? What is the logic there?
Let me get this straight. CU beat the #3 team in the country (BYU) 67 to 98 whereas the one team most people think might beat them #4 Stanford lost to #17 Washington and people are saying Colorado had a bad day and are vulnerable? That's laughable logic.

CU isn't going to win 5 in a row. They 100% shouldn't risk blowing a national title to red shirt him. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush.
Smart move by Wetmore.
Jim Rosa's improvement today was important and Stanford certainly is in the hunt but reading into the regional results is absurd.
ur laughable logic rojo
owned.
'Cuse
In the last 31 years, only seven colleges have won the Men's X-C, and every one of the seven won it more than once in those years. That's a remarkable statistic.

Note #1: If Saarel is not the reason they win nationals, it is a wasted Red Shirt. He missed conference and was 6th at regionals so, so far it is a possible wasted year of eligibility.
Note #2: Colorado was prob chilling today, but Stanford clearly was. Their top 3 finished together and they sat some key players. Colorado is still the favorite but it will be three low scores for the top 3 is Colorado, Stanford, and Syracuse run close to their potential.
I figured Wetmore putting a uniform on Ben and trying to quickly knock some rust off was a sign of panic. He had a scorer that has been sick for weeks and he was worried about the title and thought Ben may be needed.
I think one thing is official- Wetmore thought the title was in jeopardy and thus pulled Ben off the sidelines. One hell of a pinch hitter though- it'll probably get the job done.
Stanford, BYU and maybe 'Cuse would scare me if I'm Wetmore running without Ben. He'd need everyone to show up to win a title. One guy having an off day and he gets beat.

Yes, Wetmore no longer thinks that he's a shoe in... 5th guy blows up in the last 2km and scores 100+ points and they lose. He needed a strong 6th guy. We'll see soon enough whether he needed Ben or not (or if Ben is enough to clinch the win)
