Rojo,
I'm going to lay this down to you real clear. Ive been an opponent of rampant professional football on these boards for years.
The game is not about anything that you or other fans think it is about. Real football ended a couple decades ago some time after when my grandfather was with his family in the backyard and only checked in on the game when he needed a drink or people moved inside.
The obsession that people have today is part of one of the greatest manufactured marketing scheme ever created (up there with "government for the little guy" and "income inequality" and "NPR is neutral").
When the game is out of season we're all still bitching about some controversy or illegal action or controversial call (last off-season it was " deflategate" (which I called "air in a ball)). The sport is the attention whore on prom night.
Years ago (decade now?) the league made an announced decision to bring women fans into the audience. And honestly, what happened? They plugged an attractive woman in where ever they could, changed some ads to involve more women, and years later had a widely circulated incident with a player knocked out his wife and dragging her through a hotel.
I'm not saying its line by line orchestration but rather a well oiled promotion machine that keeps people like you gumming for the next scene.
Meanwhile, social economically speaking, the american audience is watching the 1% play a game while the 0.1% makes millions and then we complain about income inequality.
This recent event and any events in the past or future don't surprise me. You are watch the WWF with 1-5 sec clips of athleticism.
But I'm sure the league and players are concerned about breast cancer so they wear pink. Give me a break. It's not that you've been scammed, its that you are inelastic to the societal costs of your entertainment.
