But if you were doing 14:50s with crappy HS training, or you run at some D3 program, then yes, your body may be capable of 13:40s. Training is the big variable here, but the most important constant is your natural ability.

Ok, I am 16 years old so still in HS. I just hit my longest run (so far) is 16 miles and I have gotten injured a couple years ago but other than that fairly consistent running. Longer interval stuff on the track with hill sprints and fartleks on gravel paths, such as 6x2 mins fast, 4 x 9 mins fast w/ 1 min rest. Just started this. My natural ability will allow me to go faster than 13:40, but right now 13's is the intermediate goal for the next 1 year to 2 years.
