This was a huge misconception by everyone:
1. The course is very momentum based, each athlete gets to recover reciprocal muscle groups up and down hill constantly. These courses are faster than flat courses.
2. Tiernan ran 23:50 alone 2 years ago at BE champs on a much harder course completely alone. He dropped Green and Petersen hard after 5000m. Those guys are no joke.
3. 23:00 should not be whoa impossible to break for these guys now. It's about time. The sit and kick races are leading to low/mid 23's. We could see sub 22 on that course in the future based on how momentum based it is.
Friend in the race, ran with a Garmin, said 4.962. Measured it on Google Earth and it is about that.
I was there with a measuring wheel. Am I going to save the day, here?
It was 27 feet short following the line. It was 82 feet short cutting tangents perfectly. That's feet, not meters.
The 3k split was not even available. don't know what the 8:05 was. There was a timing mat at 3150. There were just under 9 at the 2 mile mark.
First 1000m was dead on accurate on the white line. We measured it backwards to the start.
Women went out in 3:04
Men's at 800m were through in 2:11/12, which we measured.
Funny part is women's course was long on the white line 53 feet.
