Maybe its their way of saying they feel like they don't deserve the award. Instead of feeling the pride of being the winner they feel humble that in that they really feel they don't meet the standards for it.

Yes, I think the only logical use of the phrase is that by being nominated for an award, one takes stock of one's own suitability for the award, and then realizes how inadequate they actually are - perhaps realising this for the first time - thus humbling them.
I am pretty sure almost no one that says they are humbled actually understands why they are saying it.

Wonder if "out of pocket" is a regional phrase? I too have never heard it in reference to not being available.
"learnings" Its used all the time in business and it is not a real word and always takes the place of real word that would be clearer and more concise.

Yes good choice. The purpose is equivocation. Whatever they just said they will then say the opposite.
Similar, is the "no disrespect" or "not to offend" which will usually be followed by a disrespectful or offensive comment.

My wife starts statements with "not for nothin'" with some frequency. That one gets old after the first couple hundred times.

Yeah Limey's talk funny. How about "He/She is in Hospital"? That one makes me very angry.
Well not for nothin but both "chomping at the bit" and "my old stomping grounds" are the forms widely used in the United States. Stomping grounds is accepted as an alternate and correct from. You might have a case for chomping being incorrect.Are you from England?

"Yank" I'm a Red Sox fan and some foreign pricks are trying to call me this and it made me grumpy.
Also, "very unique." Unique by definition is "one of a kind" so "very unique" is "very one of a kind." That's just ridiculous if you ask me, but hey I'm just a Red Sox fan wallowing in the Bay Area.
