Let me guess, you are one of those frat guys that went to UNC to try and party AND run and failed miserably at both. That's okay buddy, maybe you will have some success after college.
First point: only people from UNC claim that UNC is a WAY better school than NC State. It has a better reputation but by no means is on Dukes level, or even UVAs. And after this academic scandal their reputation is going down so fast.
Second point: Chapel Hill sucks. Don't even get me started. Raleigh is superior in every way.
Third/fourth point: You can get just as good of an education at State as you can at UNC. Also, why on earth, on a running website, would you call CC and track a "non revenue sport"? Obviously everyone here is here because of running. Don't try to downplay it and act like it's no big thing, when a ton of people choose their schools solely based on running alone.
Next please!
If you can't go to college, go to State.

Once again NC State proves why they are miles ahead of UNC in cross country, and that isn't going to change any time soon. Can't imagine why any high schooler would choose Carolina over State if they are even remotely concerned with their running careers. If you want to go party and joint a fraternity, sure, go to Carolina. If you want to be the best runner you can be, go to State.
Which University has placed higher at Nationals the last two years? Its a shame because Pete Watson really began to build something there, to the point where NC State couldn't get an in-state recruit. It is a shame he never got to reap the rewards of those recruiting classes. Also a shame to see how far the program has fallen from 12th at nationals last year, with Watsons recruits. Zero men in the top 20 is an embarrassment for a program that should be similar to Wisconsin, Michigan, and UVA.
CHESEREK'S GOING DOWN AT NATIONALS!!!
I agree with the statements above. Syracuse just doesn't have the strength at 4 and 5 to contend with CU or Stanford at Nats. Hubbard and Lennon were 60 something and 45 last year and they haven't touched that potential this year. In my book, Syracuse has the best top 3 in the country right now. But the 4th and 5th men matter much more when the teams are so close at the top
But with the emergence of Dressel, I don't think the Buffs will lose at Nats. Even with a down day from Pearson or Winter again they'll still have 5 All Americans. Redshirting Saarel is a smart idea at this point and they'll have hope for extending the streak to 4 next year. They'll lose 4 of the top 5 which for any program would be unrecoverable, but Klecker should be very good as a redshirt frosh so I could see them being very good.
I was expecting Wisconsin to be the favorite for 2016, but they look like trash. Stanford will have McGorty, Fisher, Keelan and Sweatt so they should have the advantage. But Oregon will return virtually everyone important, so we'll see.
Actually, you are wrong on all of your assumptions. I clearly struck a nerve with you, and for that I am sorry. My career ended a little while ago, and I have no regrets with what I accomplished and how much I invested into it. I've been posting on this topic as an unbiased person just stating my opinion. In reference to NC state's academic reputation I will say that when going through the recruiting process I had much more interest hearing to Dave Smith's pitch than I did Rollie Geiger. The only difference to me was that Smith was a way better coach. The two schools in my mind were both incredibly unattractive to me academically. The question really was which is worse, Stillwater or Raleigh? To be fair, I am getting a little harsh on the city of Raleigh. And if you've been to Franklin street you know that Chapel Hill is better.

What would you say about State's handling Roberson, Engles and Milder? All 3 sub-9 guys. Roberson out of the sport, Engles at Ole Miss, Milder at App. It's not all chocolate milk cows and 13:52 5k's in Raleigh.
They both suck! Go to VT better education especially in science and engineering and superior training environment.
Very good points. Apparently I'm not the only rational person on this board.
If you remotely care about your future after just 4 years of a non revenue sport, then wouldn't you want to go to the university whose post-graduates earn the highest salaries? NC State grads average post-graduate salaries are higher than UNCs.
And, Chapel Hill v. Raleigh is completely a matter of taste. I have degrees from both and I detested Chapel Hill for the three years that I lived there.
