There's nothing wrong with confidence, or even cockiness, if you can back it up. We're just not used to hearing it from mostly introverted runners. We'll see what this kid has in his future. Pre talked just like this, remember. And no, I'm not calling this kid the next Pre.
And he's right: when you come within a second of a course record, while running easily all by yourself, is there any doubt that you wouldn't have run at least a little faster with competition? Think about how Lukas Verzbicas coasted to his last Footlocker championship. No one even close, just jogging the last couple hundred yards with that long, easy stride. Anyone want to say he couldn't have run a lot faster? Same with this Rocha kid. If you don't like what he's saying, I think you're insecure and jealous. I know I'm jealous and with I would have run this well in high school. As they say, "Haters gonna hate." I would like to see Rocha back up that cockiness at Footlocker rather than NXN, though. It is easier to talk when you don't face the very best.
