It's highly unlikely that he could run another 8k at the same pace - that would imply that he's consistently misjudging his pace over the marathon.
If he's never tired, he may well be misjudging his pace.
He was very chipper after 2:04:01. To break 2:30 he would have just had to run a 25:58 for 7.81k which is only 3:19 per kilometer. I think he can do it. He should be drafted to make an attempt.
