Best strength for a 5k runner:
10,800 reps Alternating phases of single leg support and flight. Do this twice daily.
Running yo
200s or 400s.
I like the Elliptical Machine. Just a nice slow pace while I watch 'The View" - best show ever
Leg press. Let the t-nation readers hate away.

The best stre(n)gth training exercise for running faster is the mighty BENCH PRESS. I can officially BENCH PRESS 305. I am a strong and confident man. What more is needed for a faster 4K?
To quote Dan John, "the best exercise is the one you are not doing."

I have to respectfully disagree with Danny Boy. As posted above, the best exercise is The Mighty Bench Press and I am doing that exercise.
Short fast uphill sprints
Bounding
I would rather have an athlete do these exercises than lift weights.

The aforementioned short, fast, uphill sprints may be incorporated into the best stre(n)gth training exercise for running a faster 4K. The runner may place The Mighty Bench Press components at the top of a hill. The runner then may embark on a short, fast, uphill sprint to reach the weights and begin the best stre(n)gth training exercise for running a faster 4K.
But what about biceps curls!?
Hill repeats, preferably on a hill at least 800 meters long

While biceps curls are a very effective stre(n)gth training exercise for running a faster 4K, they are eclipsed in effectiveness by The Mighty Bench Press.
Brutus appreciates the fact that you raised awareness of the biceps curl for the running community and he hopes that some will include biceps curls (in addition to The Mighty Bench Press) in their regular workout regimen.

Are there exercises I should do in addition to curls and The Mighty Bench Press?
You are not brutus beefcake. My question was addressed to brutus beefcake.
i would personally recommend looking up pascal dobert runnersworld strength routine, and click on the first video. As well as do plyometrics.
800m hill repeats do not, in any way, increase ones muscular strength.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
