I was watching his world championship races on youtube and wondered if he was still training.. I know he has been fighting injuries, but is that still the case or is he building up towards something?

?
I believe he said he is training for the Olympic 10k and possibly marathon. We'll see. After his win against Farah in the great north run 2013 and his 2:05 debut in Paris I thought he was "back". But he had a subpar marathon after that and then nothing. I think his injury (calf) threw things off and he has never been able to train 100% since. Jos has said that even still his calves are different sizes now so his stride is off what it once was.
I see, that's too bad, Im a fan of his running, it's kinda sad knowing he's struggling in his early 30s, would be refreshing to see him back in full force and challenge Farah on the track
I agree. He's probably the only guy who could challenge Farah on the track in a championship setting right now.
Kenenisa Bekele did an interview around July for an Ethiopian radio station talking about his career and his injury (That is the latest that I can find) I am Ethiopian so I understand what they are saying so The presenter in the interview asks him that spectators of the sport haven't seen him recently and Kenenisa says that he had an injury to his Achilles and that he was out for a long time because of this and he says that he will not be competing for a long time BUT he says that he is training WELL and the injury is COMPLETELY gone.

Hearing this interview from K.B it sounds to ME that he is aiming for Rio either the 10,000m or the marathon. Maybe running the London marathon for selection for the Ethiopian team. I hope he wins whatever event he is in....
I hear he is update.
Dude has been washed up for years. He is the Tiger Woods of running.

Yes of course he has. Except for that time he crushed his marathon debut and outkicked Mohamad Farah in a race on his home turf. Apart from that, he's washed up.

You must be new on Letsrun, otherwise you would know the "update" joke.
Would be nice to hear more. Hopefully he can pull it together one last time

Carlos Lopes won the world cross country championship and set a new world record in the marathon at the age of 38. It would be great to see Bekele, arguably the GOAT, make a huge run from his early to late 30s, as well.
Has he ironed out all the problems with the biological passport

it's all about that leg speed velocity.
Marc Roig Tió, a Spanish runner and physio, who also helped pace Florence Kiplagat to the WR in the HM in Barcelona for 2 times in a row, is now working on the sub 2 hour project in Ethiopia as a physiotherapist, working directly with Bekele.
In this interview, after pacing Marisa Casanueva, a hopeful Spanish olympic marathoner in Berlin last week, he talks a little bit about the sub 2 hour project and working with Bekele. He doesn't say much, obviously, because he is under contract, but says Bekele is recovering from his injury and training, despite still not doing any hard sessions.
Any word on Kenenisa's return?
Bekele sub 2 hour marathon attempt?! I honestly don't know whether to laugh or get pumped. Seems so far fetched but obviously if anyone could do it in this generation of runners it would be Bekele. He would have to return to form and be better than he ever was. He himself has been quoted in saying it is not possible so I doubt it. Maybe the question is how long could he hold pace for? 30-35k?
