I could see an argument that they want to make the product as cheaply as possible, which would correlate with being shoddy, but I don't think any company intentionally makes a crappy product.
And, I would add, Nike does make some pretty sweet product. Other than Adidas, they're the only company that makes a wool-component running top, their spikes are great, the Pegasus is a great shoe, the Elite is finally good again, the Structure is gaining traction in run specialties, and the Streak LT is one of the best 5k flats on the market.
I think they were joking when they said that Nike wants to make crappy products....
I would agree though, Nike running shoes are much better quality than people give them credit for. And yeah they make wool tops but GTFO if you want me to pay $80+ for a running shirt that really does the same as a non wool shirt
I've tried a lot of different shoes, but I keep coming back to the Pegasus. They work for me AND they last longer than any of the other brands I've tried (Asics Cumulus, Brooks Ghost, Saucony Ride, and others).
I also like the Nike 5 inch shorts. Never had an issue with them falling apart and they fit my body well enough.

Asics use wool as do Brooks, Puma... just about everybody. What Nike is doing is getting very lazy on running specilaity R&D, the streak LT shoe is 6 or 7 years old, the Streak 4/5 is 5 or 6 years old and the fact their athletes choose an even older shoe (streak 3) shows what they think. They are falling further and further behind in this area, Adidas, Mizuno, New Balance, Brooks and Saucony all have superior product in this area. They spend the R&D budget on endorsements.
Adidas needs to fire their R and D guy then because their trainers suck.
Honestly, if history is a guide the only person who will get fired for this is Kipchoge.
Remember, Quincy Watt had his custom Nike spikes fall apart, costing him the World Championships in 1993. What was the end result there? Watts complained publicly and lost his contract as a result.
Nope, for certain events nike makes special colorways of spikes/shoes and along with the colors, the insole typically is special as well. Kipchoge's shoes had "Berlin" on them, these (https://instagram.com/p/2BjQ5jBYEW/?taken-by=trackandfieldclothes) have "Run Penn".

Nike's main customers in the sport of running? Virtually everyone who attempts running.
The people who pay attention to international marathons are an extreme minority of people who run.
Even those in observance probably didn't infer anything about Nike.
However, if this made public media, different story, the majority of people make irrational inferences.
Kipchoge and the insole incident actually got a lot of press. It made the front page of the wall street journal's tech section a few days ago [http]http://www.wsj.com/articles/kenyan-marathoner-falls-short-of-record-after-nike-shoes-fail-1443375160[/http]
Searching for a link to this article I came across similar headlines in other major outlets blaming the shoes for the missed wr.
A 12 year old Vietnamese girl was fired and replaced with an 11 year old for the same salary - 17 cents per hour.
if you are referring to the Philippines, nike's are made in china.
