I thought Karoki was going for the record here? Does anyone know what the conditions were like?
First two 5Ks were 13:54 and 14:02 (27:56 at 10K) ... never really close to WR pace (13:40 per 5K)

When I read that I didn't think he had a chance really, but would have thought he could stay on pace through at least the first 10K.
a drizzle and a bit windy. 15 C/50 F

Sounds pretty good then, depending on what exactly the wind was. I was way off on what WR pace is anyway ... it's 13:50 per 5K.
When Tadesse ran 58:22 he went out in 27:53 then ran a 13:40 and 13:48.
For Wanjiru's record (58:33) his splits were 13:40, 13:47, 14:03, 14:01. Apparently it was windy that day too and his pacemaker's only lasted the first 3K.
He should run the marathon.
he will wait until after the olympics but when he does it will be very fast. I can see him being a 2:03 guy if his body can handle it
i'm surprised no one so far wished he was at the GNR to whup Mo Farah's skinny ass LOL

they ran within ten seconds of the same time. on different courses. pretty sure it's not a direct comparison
you don't know that farah wouldnt have won anyway
You are absolutely right , I don't know that Mo would have won it
i'm just surprised because of the amount of hate so many posters here have for Mo no one brought up the possibility that if Karoki had been in New Castle instead of Copenhagen he would have taught Mo a lesson

Why are you so bitter?
tony, you know that the organizers aren't interested in paying Mo a lot of money only to get beaten by someone better suited to the distance. Hence, on the roads, he sometimes gets these races where his pacer is stronger than him but begs off at the crucial time if Mo is getting dropped. This year, it sounds like his pacer was about to break him but either eased up or was broken by Mo, and then obviously he's going to win the kick against anyone at half if the course isn't closed up to single file at the end as it was in the great race with Bekele.

Or Farah would have run behind him and out kick him at the end like he always does, Karoki ran 59:14, Farah ran 59:22 who is to say Farah could not stay with a pace 8 seconds faster (less than 1 second a mile faster) and if Farah is close he would outkick Karoki, it would be interesting to see Farah in a race well under 59 or even in a record attempt race. Farah absolutely could run faster than he did today if he had to.
Did you see the interview with mo afterward? He seemed to suggest he was pretty much strapped.
jjjjjj,
Are you serious ? are you saying the whole races is fixed and the outcome was already decided before the race ?
Maybe if you tell me they watered down the competition so Mo can win I might buy that , but a racer/pacer easing off so Mo can catch up with him and ultimately win the race is absurd ..
Douglas Burke ,
Actually whatsfunny is right , Mo looked spent at the end of the race to be honest with you ..it seems he was maxed .. maybe another day but yesterday I think 59.22 was his limit
Tony, I am saying that they watered down the field, but also that the pacer backed off. Kigen last year was stronger than Mo (who closed in about 63), and the commentator says it a number of times. For instance, at 57:32 on the race clock, he says that Kigen looks back at Mo and appears to slow down so that he can catch back up.
WOW and here I thought you are one of few sensible and the sane Fourmers on here .. are you sure Bad Wigins didn't hijack your code ? lol
