Let me start by saying I know for a fact this isn't a placebo thing -- I only noticed this pattern after I started documenting my runs for the first time (with notes, mileage, etc.).
During my morning runs, I feel lethargic, sluggish, and tight. The pep in my step is never there.
If I run in the afternoon or early evening, however, the exact opposite is true. Faster paces are a breeze. My legs feel explosive. I get faster as my runs go on.
I used to think that I had good days and bad days, but after analyzing months of notes and data, it seems like I only have afternoon runs and morning runs. There's a direct correlation there.
So what is happening?? I have tried everything from warming up more in the mornings to training more in the mornings to see if my body could make the adjustment. No luck.
Any advice here? I have a big race on Saturday morning, bright and early, and I'd like to be at my best.
