I say Ben True next summer (not Brussels), but I'm biased. Jager? Derrick? Jenkins?

Umm.... ever heard of Jordan Hasay?
Well, I run a sub-13 most days of the week. I thought everybody on Let'sRun could run a sub-13 mile???
Did I get into Runners World by mistake?

Sure, but you didn't do it in trainers.

I'm a big Lomong fan, but 7:39/13:07 12-16 months ago is not indicative of a big PR in the next year.

I think you nailed the main three options for a new sub 13 (Jager/True/Jenkins). My prediction is True first, but I think all three will have done it by the end of next year. I think the actual answer to the question "Who will be the next American to run sub-13?" has to be Rupp and I think he does it at Brussels this week.
I don't think Derrick does it, as much as I'd love to see it. I think and hope he takes a stab at the marathon sooner rather than later instead of chasing 5k prs.
I think German Fernandez could have done it if he had stayed healthy all these years, but "ifs" don't count for an awful lot.
Centro is probably also a name to toss in there as an option, but I think Jager/True/Jenkins will get it done first. I don't think Centro will stay at 1500 the rest of his career, and the 5000 is a pretty logical place to go for him.
No American is gonna run sub 13 in the next year cause they'll be prepping for the lympics and won't wanna time trial at their peak, except maybe indoors which doesn't really count anymore.
Speaking of which, some Kenyans and Ethiopians should try to run a 12:4x indoors this winter, I bet they could.
Jager.
What Americans are in the Brussells 5000 on Friday, it could happen there.
Clayton Murphy. He's moving up.
Sam Chelanga.
Ben True's window has closed. He is like Manzano for the 5k now. He can't hang in fast races but blazes in the US trials in a sit-n-kick affair.
Hassan Mead...he is an interesting prospect. He is a runner that needs to get "hoovered" to a sub 13 much like Ritz, Teg, Kennedy, and Rupp. He won't do it himself and certainly not if the Africans keep playing their cat-n-mouse games at Diamond League events. He is capable next year, though.
Ryan Hill...he runs 7:34 indoors and hasn't sniffed near that performance since. Yet another American runner who seems to show up at the trials but nowhere to be found in top notch fast international races or international championship events. I wish he just committed at some races and went for it.
Jager - legit chance next year. No doubt in my mind IF he can get in the right race. The problem is these days there are too many African-dominated races that just slow way down and end in low 50s laps and still not break 13. Jager can't do well in that type of race. He needs a smoothly paced race....a rarity these days. He has a legit chance.
Chris Derrick - when pigs fly.
German Fernandez - He will never break 13. He'll be lucky to sniff sub 13:30 again.
As I think of the short list of sub-13 hopefuls - we've really regressed in US distance running. We should have yearly sub-13 hopefuls but Jager is the only one we can confidently say has a legit chance.
Trues window has closed? He ran 13:02 a year ago in an all american race early in the season, and ran 13:06 this year to get his standard. Wouldnt really say his window has closed it just has to be a race where there are others running 1250-1255 to pull him along.
Alberto will make sure it is Rupp and Jenkins. Schumacher will have Jager training all yesr for the Trials and Games (but will not medal because he isn't sharp enough)

Sad. But probably true.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
