I love letsrun.com. I love reading the articles about "how to improve to 15min 5k" and then going outside and training for it.
But, I never knew I would find myself on here posting for help. I'm always a "I can do it myself, I don't need to ask" kid -I guess sort of snobby-. This is my first post, and I know there are some jokesters on here as well as some rude people, but I'm up for it.
I have run the 800m(+8x400 anchor)/1600 for my school.
Pb:
800=2:00
1600= 4:30
4x8= 1:58
*keep in mind, these are all just off of training in practices
I've never really considered running a serious sport until this summer when I really buckled down and ran 40mpw (I know, "wow I run 75mpw", this is a start to my running career-starting slow-) but have run into a huge problem...XC.
During practice, I can run 5:30x4, 2:20x3 and then 1:00 for 2, yet during the meets I CAN NOT perform. I will literally be so nervous, I will go to the bathroom 7 times, retie my shoes, keep on stretching, keep on seeing the faces of my competitors and getting even more nervous.
My first meet, I ran 5:20 first mile (slow course, and led the state leaders) and then threw up.
My second meet, I took it controlled. I ran 5:25 first mile, 11:20 through 2 miles, then my body just gave up and I ended up running 18 something.
I'm confused though, why am I able to run a 5:30x4 and all of those workouts, yet am always sucking so bad at the races?
For breakfast I will have: Eggs, orange juice, and a oatmeal bar. *Could this be a problem?
I'm confused as to why I am a "workout warrior" (seen this phrase in a couple of posts) and then during the meets I just crumble :/
Can someone tell me is it really just my mental battle? Is it because of what I eat? Is it my training?
I really need some help. During practice I am the top leader, and felt terrible for letting my whole team down both races.
I'm open for any judgement, criticism or anything. I just need some help.
Possibly training advice/breakfast idea/ANYTHING!
****Keep in mind., these 2 5k's are my only 5k's I've ever ran in my life.
Thanks so much,
