Premature Ejectulation. Works especially badly against dopers:
He ran with guts and made a statement, but watching him from 500m to 300m to go you can see the pop leave his legs. He was just pounding his feet, trying to drive his arms on the home stretch. Kiprop slowly turned up the dial and wasn't even straining as he loped through the last 50m.
Robby kept a traditional race plan and was moving nicely at 150m through the curve, but didn't have any more acceleration with 60m.
Good on him for having a go at it. He knew that is was out-classed in that field under normal circumstances, so his best hope was to to go unorthodox and hope that there was some kind of disaster behind him. Can't fault him for not dying wondering. What's the alternative, running smart for a tactical 8th placing ? How much fun is that to watch.
Once upon a time we all ran because we wanted to run fast.
I get bored with LR posters complaining about stuff like this, as if every runner has an obligation to make every race fast, or blow the race open in the middle. Ingebrigtsen tried something, great. Didn't work.
Why not call Kiprop a wimp for waiting and kicking?
Also, note Centro's run this year at the USAs, he was aggressive and it worked for him.

Agree. Why are everyone so damn defensive about the americans? Ingebrigtsen is usually a very good tactical runner who hunts down people in the last 100m, but this time he, as Dwayne points out, tried something new, something unorthodox. It was great to watch and without him that race wouldve been absolutely boring.
More runners should try that. Anyone remember Laura Muir at the 1500m at Bislett this year? Most entertaining 1500m in a long time. She gained respect from a lot of people that day, and got noticed. Who noticed Robby Andrews? Nobody.
Dont be such whiny kids, enjoy the fun, theres enough jogfests around.
I wonder what would have happened if he had gone out a little harder and started his solo run from the second or third position instead of working his way up from the back. Anyway, great run from the ballsy guy.
Yeah, he sure as hell took it to them, one of the high points of the meet along with the women's PV (three fierce women; wish they had shown Morris jump).
Wow, that was a poorly executed kick. I assume that he will learn from this.

Learn what? That he should stay in the pack and be happy with an 11th place?
Dunno this guy, but it doesn't look like he is often among the first six.
Great tactics as Kiprop was way, way back. He just wasn't fit enough to pull it off. If it was 2013 I think he could have pulled it off. This is a tactic I feel Centrowitz could pull off if he had the guts.
If people like Kiprop and Farah want to fool around in the back ... take advantage and roll the dice. If they grant you 50 meters - go for it!

He's a 3:31 runner who finished 5th at the last Olympics.
I don't think that he would have been happy with an 11th place finish in that field. Nor is he happy with 6th.
He will time his kick better the next time, I am sure.

And if you see someone go for it, go with him! 2-3 guys going for it could humiliate the blazed established stars. Runners have something to learn from cycling.

Yes, as soon as Ingebrigtsen decided to blow his load from 525m to 300m out, had one or two guys followed him, they may have won. Ingebrigtsen's wheels would have fallen off with 150m to go. The guy behind him would have blown up with 50m to go. But the third guy would have put himself in a great position to win...
Ingebrigtsen did a bonehead move that someone else could have taken advantage of...
Guys in the Diamond League would love to see Americans (or anyone else for that matter) start using this race "tactic" regularly... It opens up new race possibilities for the others. ...and it's one less guy to worry about.
Yeah that was a solid effort and he beat Ndiku pretty handily too. Leo was classic DL final Leo and Robby just looked like this season was way longer than he was used to.
