Centro is a man.
Centro is a man.
The real reason is because centro reminds them of all the jocks/cool kids that bullied them and got the girls back in high school. This board is full of former nerds who found in running their own little world where they could feel like somebody important. To them running 15:xx made them an alpha male and actually got them some semblance of respect. However, people like centro, symmonds, ect remind them of the little cuckold losers that they really are.

Do you run at all? And do you race?
Because if you do then you must be pretty good to be aiming or first every time.
That is a horrible argument. A regular joe hopping in a fun run 5k can say "my goal is just to finish."
A two time medalist who just made the final SHOULD say "I'm going to try and win."
Anybody who gets upset hearing a finalist say that has their own issues to deal with.

I can tell you what I dislike about Centro. He does seem quite cocky in spite of how he seems in real life. Him talking about running for gold and his yawn post and just his attitude in general. In interviews he comes off prickish. His fans are even more annoying which also makes him difficult to like. Calling him a medal favorite in the race when I think six of the finalists had medaled previously and five had faster PBs is just stupid. The nut riding from the fans is pathetic. Many on here has said that he "works harder than everyone else", which is total bs. All of these athletes are busting their asses to compete. It's that view that Americans somehow lack the talent to do anything and just get by on work ethic alone. It's a crock. He's not the man and he's not a badass. I think that he's an excellent 1500m runner for being American and will probably end up as the best (he probably already is) but I think that he is a level below the best in the world in spite of his previous two medals. The competition now is better than it was and that's just a fact. Maybe he can medal again if the stars align but I think that it's unlikely.
I know that your question wasn't directed at me but I will tell you what I like about Makhloufi anyway. I think that he looks funny and the look on his face alone cracks me up. His antics on the bell lap of the London win were comical. The elbowing and jostling to get to the front and just sprint away from everyone else was comical. The two times of celebrating early were funny too. He's actually very nice and affable in interviews. His antics are comical to me.
I've got to say, your comments about disliking Centro say way more about you than they do him. One of your reasons is that many on here say he works harder than anyone else (not something i've ever heard someone say btw). So you dislike the guy because of something a message board poster may have said?
You like Makhloufi partially because he elbowed his way to the front at London. Okay. Someone on the TTC thread (maybe it was you) called Centro a prick for an elbow he supposedly threw in the race this weekend. I didn't even see any contact but if there was, who cares. It's in every race.
I am really starting to believe what others have said- someone like Centro who is atypical for distance running- cool, gets the girl, has medaled, etc,- is going to be hated by the nerdy dweebs who only ran because they couldn't catch a basketball.

It wasn't me on the ttc thread.
Btw I'm not some distance running nerd. I was a basketball player. I started running in my mid 30s. I like Makhloufi because he's ridiculous. You Centro nutriders are comical. I dunno what "girl" Centro has and I don't care.

He didn't say he was referring to a professional athlete, OK?
Learn to read.
Centro ran pretty hard to maintain his position form 800 to 1100. Couldn't hold focus or accelerate from 1200.
He's not run a 3rd lap like that in worlds before, but he'd need a 3rd lap like that to win gold.
He was in good position with 400 to go. If he can get stronger and be in the same position with a lap to go over the next 2 years, more medals could come his way.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=78867EaVpKkHe WAS capable of finishing in 51, but he's not now. As more time passes since his college days, the less sharp he becomes.
This is a common problem. Many athletes NEED the frequent racing they get in college to remain sharp. Their bodies miss the week-in, week-out competition. Andrew Wheating is another example. Neither will be as sharp as they oncer were, at least as long as they compete as infrequently as they do. The probably both benefited from college x-country, too.
Come to think of it, even Coe ran x-country before his breakout '79 season.
Yoshitoshi- I definitely agree with your college assessment, on how much it helps.

When Matthew Centrowitz most needed his speed, he was exhausted.
A medalist in the past two world track and field championships at 1,500 meters, the Nike Oregon Project competitor had put himself in the perfect position to medal again after 1,200 meters
Then runner after runner swept past him on Sunday.
Tired from three rounds of running in four days, Centrowitz struggled home in eighth place, finishing in 3 minutes, 36.13 seconds, more than five seconds off his best time of the season.
I just watched the race last night. The kid gets a pass on this one. He ran a great race for 1200 meters and just did not have the next gear. Always seems like he gets himself in the perfect position. Savvy racer beyond his years. Not his day.
Agree with the other posters here that the race was stacked and obviously no one was taking down Kiprop.
Curious: why isn't the thread entitled. "Manzano, what happened?' Isn't he the most recent US medalist in big world meets?

How does he get a pass? It wasn't the 1,200m final.

Maybe because Centro won the trials in a dominant way? Maybe because "bang bang" Centro said he was aiming for gold?
As he said after the race, he was tired. As was Willis. The lack of a rest day between the heats and semis affected them in the final. At past WCs there was an off day after the heats and semis. At this WC, only after the semis.

Maybe because the midget guido is a cheating punkassbitch doper.
Finally got around to watching post-race interviews from worlds. Wanted to add that, to his credit, Centro made no excuses or apologies for 8th place. Basically admitted that he was outclassed by the field and repeatedly asserted that he did the best he could on that day. My impression is that his cockiness is exaggerated by people who don't like him for other reasons. Not my favorite runner, but I'm sure he's perfectly likeable in real life and probably doesn't deserve the "guido punkassbitch" jokes.
