At 2000m, Ayana was fourth in 6:06.92.
Really impressive considering the smoggy conditions in Beijing.
Only the doped up Chinese have run faster far as I know.
Even Dibaba couldnt do that

Apologies just realised that Dibaba has ran 8:16 indoors. But that was in a 3,000m, not 5,000m.
Does anyone remember Ayana's last 3k in Shanghai this year?
2:54, 2:55, 2:47, 2:50, 2:48
Last 3k 8:25, which makes 8:19 quite feasible.
No one should point the Doping FInger at GD without including this also. 4:11, 4:08 for the last two 1500s !!??!? From a PB for 3K of 8:22!?!?!
Imagine the uproar on here if Mo runs the last 3K of a 5K in 7:27 in a 13:00 race!
But it was virtually a 3km race!
And considering the men's 5km only really started the last 3 laps, and Farah ran 7:50 last 3km, it shouldn't be discarded the chance that he could also have ran it close to 7:30. But he didn't have to.
I mean Bekele closed in about that time (maybe a couple seconds over) in his Olympic record, not bad for a 12:58 hum?

Proof of doping by the Epopians, although the PC brainwashed won't allow the truth to sink in. Imagine if third world affletes were subjected to year round testing. Even people on drugs can get burned out, like Dibaba.

Sad but true.
im glad almaz ayana won.she used her talent as a steeplechaser,to run hard all the way,and run the legs out of dibaba.its a fair bet she knew dibaba was tired, and she knew how to beat her.after all,the two women know each other, and probably sometimes run together, and train together.yes, theyre probably on drugs, but theyre still supremely talented athletes.
All of you'a are funny! Genzene dibaba is still a winner to a lot of us, It sad she missed this but she will recover. And yes Genzebe wants the 800,so forget your jealousy driven dope stories and enjoy the ride . Next year there will be a new dibaba introduced too the athletics world as well.

Disregarding the Chinese that's like closing a men's 5000 in 7:23.
Mr. Spock would raise BOTH his eyebrows.
Letsrun listed it as the 6th fastest women's 3000m in history.
But you can't quite say that because it is not an official split from the beginning of the race.
Just like you can't list relay splits.
Her 8:19.91 will not make any official lists.
Wang Junxia closed out her world record 10,000 with a last 3,000 of 8:17.4.
That is truly unbelievable.
Really. I don't believe it.

Wang Junxia was the most amazing women's runner ever, and could have smashed the 5000m record had she run it seriously.
This being said, I am totally impressed with Ayana, and think she can smash not only the current record for the 5000m, but the long time 10000m record as well.
If Ayana were paced by men, she coud run 14:05/29:10 - but it's not going to happen.
Both Ayana and Dibaba could revolutionize women's distance running in the next couple of years and take the 5000/10 000 to sub '14' and sub '29' - they are physically capable of those performances.
They have to believe it - just as Kenny did when he ran sub 12:40 and sub 27:20.
Ghost in Khon Khaen, Thailand
Sorry I meant sub 26:20 for Kenny. He ran 26:17 - mind boggling. It could take years for someone to beat Kenny's time.

Ayana needs no pacing, not by anyone, and could very well break both 14 for 5000 and 29 for 10000 meters. I think she could double at Rio and win both of them.
Dibaba's specialty is 1500 meters, certainly world class in the 5, but not as likely in the 10.
I wouldn't equate her 8:19.91 to 7:23, rather to 7:30.
My rule of thumb is, subtract 10% from a woman's time to get the equivalent time for men. E.g. Tirunesh Dibaba's 5k WR would correspond to a 12:46 for men; or to put it the other way round, Kenenisa Bekele's WR would correspond to a 14:01.50 for women, which makes sense to me since in 2008 both Tirunesh and Meseret (Defar) would clearly have been able to run something like 6 to 8 seconds faster than they did.
Now consider Haile Gebrselassie's then world record at Zürich in 1995: He ran 5:14 for the first 2000 followed by 7:30 for the remaining 3000. Applying the above rule of thumb, Almaz Ayana's race was equivalent to 5:30 followed by 7:30.
What I want to say is, unfortunately we don't know whether Almaz is clean, but her race at Beijing gives us no evidence that she is not.

Very much agree, assuming she avoids injury. I do think she'd benefit greatly from being paced by men, though.
It would be tremendous to see her win the 5/10 double next year, if the schedule allows.
She's the most exciting female distance runner I've seen in a long time.
Ayana is obviously doping. Look at her face during the finals of the world championships there is no suffering. Just like Armstrong when he was doping. She finishes the race and lets out a long breath like she had just finished an easy run or something.
