Drugs aren't the only thing missing that athletes need to fuel their bodies. Quality food is too. People are eating low quality sugarless chemical shite fruit/veg and more meat, eggs and dairy than ever. The world is getting unhealthier every year and so are we. Also the Kenyans aren't running barefoot these days like they used to. Back then they trained barefoot which enabled them to build-up a larger plantar proprioceptive field as compared to shod-joggers. So the proprioceptors in their feet, ankles, knees and hips repsonded faster and more strongly to tactile stimulation. A younger experience to barefoot running creates significantly richer neuronal connections to boost biomechanical efficiency.
It's not just drugs.

Your answer only mean one thing : You have been owned.
Try just to imagine the number of athlete in the Russian Premier league.
Jamaica = 0 pro leagues, 2millions people
As for kenya, I can't vouch for them, but they have the same number of habitants than Ukraine.
National Anti‐doping Center of Ukraine : 3 tests in 2014 (in all sports) !
Russischen didnt send their racewalkers. They always heavily contributed to the medal count.

They tried to send one, but she found out about her positive EPO test on the plane ride to Beijing, lol.
Does anyone else miss the skinny, pale Russian blondes keeping pace with our USA ebony ponies in the 4x4?
I was born in USSR, in a state that was for almost 50 years occupied by Russia, and I can tell you this -- Russians are a strange nation with a very strange mentality and view on the world. They have overwhelming desire to be the best at everything no matter the price. Showiness and hence lust for power, money and glory is rooted so deep into their mentality that it distorts the way they treat and look onto other nations and especially Western people. Ethics, rights, equalness -- they use these words but very rarely they truly understand what it means. They perceive world from perspective of power, money, glory and force. From this comes their desire to be the strongest, fastest, toughest, best at everything.
To satisfy these desires and compensate their inner complexes they are ready to do whatever it takes to be at the top of everything. Naturally in the sport it results in huge usage of PED's and other forms of doping. May be for Westerners it will be hard to believe this but I think I would not be far from truth if I would say that 99% of all the USSR and now Russian athletes have "doped" at least once in their career.
To what extent does RUSADA use those tests to alert athletes that they might be caught by international authorities, and hence, not to suspend athletes but to make sure they avoid scandals?
You don't understand the whole picture.
RUSADA basically is the one who manages usage of PED's on their athletes.
This can be seen in the recent documentary film (video, audio captured with spy camera).

the era of american ultra-domination in track and field is gone forever. just as is happening in many other spheres of development, the world is catching up.
the reason america excelled in track and field has nothing to do with superior effort. the country has enormous financial, facilities, coaching etc advantages over other countries but that is and will continue narrowing.
if you take away the african american minority, the united states is a below average sports country in the same league as indonesia and india.
its amusing some seem to be suggesting that the united states that apparently has the knowledge and muscle to investigate and charge fifa officials all over the world, somehow doesnt have the ability to charge 'obviously doping' officials and athletes from weak countries that extract millions in prize money from the US.

As for the numbers
https://wada-main-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/wada_2014_anti-doping-testing-figures_full-report_en.pdfTotal number of tests by RUSADA: 12556
Total number of tests by JADCO: 347
Total number of tests by Africa Zone V (that is Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia and a few other countries together): 53!
Even adjusting for population and/or number of top athletes that is alarmingly low.
Who the hell are you trying to fool ?
First and foremost, your figures don't take in account International federations numbers.
Uhh, so look those up and you'll discover the IAAF did urinalysis, but no blood tests to speak of.
And then there is Seppelt's/Ashenden/Parisotto's recent work.
This just posted on Buzzfeed: Doping is okay.

Cuba population : 11, 2 Million
Poor communist country with no professional sports league.
The Netherlands population : 17 Million.
Extremely wealthy country
According to WADA anti-doping testing figures 2014 (p. 77):
https://wada-main-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/wada_2014_anti-doping-testing-figures_full-report_en.pdfCuban National Anti‐Doping Agency :
Out Of Competition tests (Blood+urine) : 1908
Total tests : 2002
Netherlands Anti‐Doping Authority :
Out Of Competition tests (Blood+urine) : 796
Total tests : 1947
Those figures are indeed schocking considering the wealth (and population) disparity between the two countries.
They are even more surprising to me, as I don't remember seeing, in 2014, an army of Cuban speedskaters winning more medals than the rest of the World, in the winter OG.
The Netherlands = 3rd World ? Cuba = 1st World ?

All the running talent has migrated from track to the marathon because road running is more lucrative.
Nowadays its almost impossible for a Kenyan to earn a living running 5K and 10K on the track. How often do you see 10K races in the diamond league? Almost never
What about the 5K?
Perhaps 1 or 2 diamond league races offer the 5K

Good post. A lot of observers seem to still be stuck in the old Cold War thinking. They think the USA actually is #1, and it is their God-given right to dominate track and field, if only those nasty Russians would just stop cheating. But they seem to forget that the US has a long history of cheating, too. Cheating, and cover-ups. As you noted, without the African-American contingent of sprinters and field event folks, the US team would be just like everyone else - hoping to pick off a medal here and there against the Africans in the distances, and no better or no worse than others at everything else. American sprinters are good, but it's hard to say how good they would be on a truly even playing field.
It just cracks me up when Americans get all up in arms about the cheating villains - the Russians. We would never do that, of course. Except for the occasional bad apple, like Justin Gatlin, and Tyson Gay, and Marion Jones, and Tim Montgomery, and Carl Lewis, and Dennis Mitchell, and so on. I'm sure we caught all the bad guys. FloJo, JJK, Jeter, Burrell, Greene, etc were all clean, no doubt about it.
Re: " without the African-American contingent"
That's a crazy statement; you do know that African-Americans are Americans and been in America since the 1500s.
Also, when you name drug cheats, let's stick to the ones who tested positive and not speculate. Because, if you want to speculate, I can create a full page of suspicious athletes. Also, the one thing USADA is doing is catching our dirty athletes; we are not depending WADA to catch our drug cheats.
I'm not trying to claim that African-Americans are any less American than anyone else. As far as I'm concerned, if anyone is "more American", it's the Native Americans, but they don't play much of a role in T & F these days. The point is, most of the people, including most of those on this website, who like to go on and on about how great the US is at track are white people. Take away the sub-population of people whose ancestors were brought here as slaves, and the US would be average at best at track. Without looking up the exact statistics, blacks make up something like 11% of the US population, but win, what, 80+ percent of the running medals?
My other point was that, we like to talk about how dope-ridden other countries are, but many of the people who built the USA's reputation as a premier track country, at least in the last few decades, have been revealed to be cheaters (Lewis, Jones, Montgomery, Gatlin, Gay, etc). And it is not exactly wild speculation to think that many of those who weren't caught (officially, anyway) were dopers too; especially given what we know about the US coverup of 1984, etc.
The overall point is: it's hypocritical for USA fans to talk about Russians as some sort of lowlife while acting like we are the purest of the pure.
