Centro has a proven record.
Call him cocky, call him unrealistic, call him a punkass doper. The facts are, he finished 4th at the Olympics coming off an injury in a race blown open by an incredible Makhloufi. A race in which the Kenyans looked like crap. Centro finished 3rd in Daegu 2011 after a very strong looking Asbel and Silas, following a long and impressive championship season at NCAAs and USAs. He finished second behind Asbel in Moscow, having the second best wheels down the stretch. If Beijing's race is run like a typical championship race--and it usually is--then Centro has as much a shot at gold as anybody. Not a big shot, but then again, you never know. You don't know how Makh is gonna be, Silas can be unpredictable in Finals and you never know if another guy like Johan Cronje will come through for a medal. Centrowitz never said he thinks he's gonna win gold, he merely said he thinks he's a guy that can challenge Kiprop, a guy who is expected to medal. Sure, a lot of the guys in the field have faster PBs than Centro, but if the race plays out like almost all of them do, Centro's last lap (and last 100m) is arguably second only to Kiprop's.
