Why was she celebrating third like a complete a hole?
Be a pro, finish the race. She shouldn't be handed a medal she should have to pay her sponsor back for the cash she just cost them.
Huddle made two mistakes. She moved all the way out to lane 2. She started letting up with 10 meters to go and then raised her arms. She became a perfect target for Enfield. This video will be watched many times as a learning tool by a lot of high school athletes. A very tough learning experience for Huddle.
This would have been a good, moron-infused DyeStat thread.
They represent the same country. It is not a team sport. Maybe it is hard for Americans to understand. Some runners choose to run the whole distance, and that is usually smart. If you choose not to run the last four steps, you deserve it if someone passes you.
Infeld deserves the silver for her persistence and agile attitude.
waiting for Chis Derrick to come on here with a hipster quality ironic user name and eloquently skewer the OP
I knew from the first time I saw Emily run in OHIO she had the heart of a champion!
I agree completely. Similarly, if a football player spikes the ball before crossing the goal line, the defender should pick the ball up, dust it off, and hand it back to the offensive player so that he can score the touchdown that he earned.
However,
The real question is would this have happened if her teammate in front was also her swoosh teammate and training partner? Probably not. She probably would have eased off if it was Shalane in front of her out of respect.
Also, all the teammates looked kindof sheepish after it happened. It was like a major rule of etiquette was broken.
This petition is dumb for three reasons.
1. While Infeld and Huddle are representing the same country, they are not technically "teammates". Infeld trains under the Bowerman Track Club while Molly Huddle is sponsored by Saucony. You don't see NCAA athletes giving their earned medals away to someone they passed at the line, even though they are all running for the United States.
2. It is Molly Huddle's fault for not finishing through the line. Why should Infeld be punished for another runner's mistake? When I'm in the final seconds of a race I am not focused on place and time. I'm solely focused on finishing the fastest I physically can. Should Infeld be punished for having an outstanding kick? That does not seem right.
3. Infeld has made a huge comeback. In the fall a year ago she was not even running. She deserves this bronze medal just as much as Molly Huddle does, if not more so. Instead of giving a fellow American credit for representing our country in track and field, you all are calling her unclassy and non deserving. The fact that Americans placed 3rd and 4th in this race is outstanding, despite the order they finished.
I agree completely. Classless move by Infield
let them settle this in the Octagon!!! winner gets the medal...
You raised all good points, but.....stealing is stealing. And LetsRun said Infeld "stole the bronze medal from Huddle", so.....And I just think when you are from the same country, and a teammate makes an honest mistake, you don't dive at the line to nip them. She was beaten fair and square, but then......Huddle just made a careless, honest mistake, and Infeld dove in ripped that medal off her neck. Next time, at least scream a heads up "I'M COMING!!!!" and then go for the dive at the line. at least you fairly warned her. Yes, it's not required, but it would good etiquette towards a teammate who had no idea you were there.oh well.

I see what you did there.
Tyrone,
What you choose to scream in the bath houses of your town is your business.....
As for Ms. Huddle, she embarrassed herself.
Everyone else was just racing ...
Molly has too much class to accept a medal she did not earn.

You don't nip (pip?) a teammate at the line like that who simply made an honest mistake. Huddle would have won if Infeld did not sneak up on her, on the inside no less, and, to quote LetsRun's front page, "steal (the) bronze."
She STOLE Huddle's medal with a sneaky-a$$ inside move, after Huddle rightfully beat her, but simply made an honest mistake. THAT WAS HER TEAMMATE FOR CRISSAKES!
Infeld, show some class, and give the bronze back to Huddle. You didn't earn that 3rd. You stole it, sneaked it, slid it off Huddle's neck when she was caught napping for 1 second.
Really. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a medal from my teammate like that. I wonder if she will ever really be able wear if she keeps it. Infeld, this will haunt you if you don't listen to me.
PETITION DENIED.
Stop being a puss.... no finisher medals here.
I kind of feel like she had a reverse racist moment. She looked to the right and said oh theres the kenyan, that means there couldn't possibly be a white chick behind me. fck! and thats all she wrote
Ok. Just give me back my country you little kawk sucking peace of white ass shittt hole
