Have you ever coached? Have you ever told your athletes before a race that they are not to try their best? Have you actually told them to let up at the finish if they have a teammate who is letting up in front of them?Just curious, because I've never heard such a bizarre statement on LetsRun, and that's saying something. What part of "giving your all" did you miss when you were introduced to track & field? Or did you miss the part about the finish line and its significance? The entire foundation of our sport is built upon achieving individual excellence. Even in cross country, the message is to go even harder if a teammate is having trouble, because the team needs you to pick up the slack. To cite Emily's amazing effort as an example of poor patriotism is ludicrous, offensive, and clinically bizarre. And I'm not even addressing your notion that the World Championships, an event with no team score, is about which country is the best.

Am I the only one who thinks what Infeld did was unpatriotic?
World Championships are about determining which is the best country (hint: USA), not who is the best individual athlete. Huddle worked hard for 3rd place and Infeld stole it from her.
Would the third place have been a Kenyan then yes, it would have been ok. But you don't beat your own teammate in this kind of unprofessional way.
