"The advantage Tyson Gay has over all these other 100m runners, maybe with the exception of Usain Bolt, is great foot speed. He has great foot speed."
Very close to talking about their leg speed velocity...
Complete nonsense in other words.

He was probably about to say access to good dope but then realized he shouldn't and came up with something else instead
I think i know what he means. I think Tyson's stride is just the most bada$$ looking of all the current sprinters. Johnson probably just feels the same.

Johnson was obviously referring to STRIDE FREQUENCY(which is an important aspect in sprinting), but used layman terms.
Armchair pundits, smh

Correct. OP is an idiot and embarrassing himself. Michael Johnson is an obsessive student of the sport. He as lived in it for basically his entire life. Not talking nonsense.
"Leg speed velocity" is a classic Letsrun meme including redundant terms.
"Food speed" quite obviously refers to stride frequency (aka stride rate, aka turnover), which any sprinter, coach or basically most thinking people would know is important to sprinting.
Lol for all of you guys hating on Gay for the brief doping ban as a response to Johnson's comment...ya I know he messed up, but maybe Michael Johnson is saying this because knows a lot more about sprinting than any of you guys...afterall, he is the fastest 400m runner of all time and #3 all time in the 200.

Umm, calm down there buddy. I read a book on sprinting.

Weren't watching/listening to the BBC were you? Michael Johnson is obviously far more knowledgeable than me about sprinting, but foot speed (or your "food speed") is not synonymous with turnover, no way. And if it were, since when does Usain Bolt have the fastest turnover?
He's a good commentator that just accidentally came out with a rare garbled bit of commentary that veered towards the nonsense-meme used on here.
No one's making a fool of themself you great eejit.
foot speed (=acceleration and/or top speed?) vs. start. he does not have a start to match gatlin. once he is going he can keep pace.
i'm waiting for his classic :
"he failed to execute the execution of his execution"
Foot speed i.e ground contact time/reactivity of the neuromuscular system is a real, and improtant, component of speed... Something people specifically train to improve (e.g. Ladder drills, toe taps/plyos)
Actually all that matters is getting from point A-B faster than anyone else. Definitions of the various ways to do this are irrelevant.

There is a lot that goes into sprinting, which Mike is to is the raw ability to accelerate (pick em up and put em down). For example, Carl Lewis did not have amazing 'foot speed', his speed came mostly from flawless technique, stride length and his ability to maintain his speed to the finish line. Btw, Gay did not as relaxed as some others in the 1st round but he never looks relaxed. I can see him beating out Powell for the bronze.

This ^^
Stride frequency isn't so important

speed = stride frequency * stride length
And stride frequency is not important?!?
Are you retarded or just trolling?
What does Eddie Murphy know anyway, Hehehe!

It does not.
