I've been a long time supporter of ritz and would categorize his pro career as disappointing. Every once and a while he strings together some months of solid training and pops a huge race. If he would just stay injured or always run like horseshit, you could forget about ritz. But no, he keeps teasing us w talent and then flaming out. Anyway... He seems like he is on his own now and i would not be shocked if he drops some shocking performances before his career is done.
Harsh. I would love to have a disappointing career in your eyes. Sub 13 5k, 60 min half, 3 Olympic teams (so far!) etc etc. I could list so many things he's done but won't bother as I don't want to waste my time. Haters gonna hate

I'm far from a hater.. But ritz's potential was simply huge. It's just the injuries and post-collegiate mismanagement that really held him back. He coulda been a contenda!

He's racing New Haven in a few weeks against a really deep field, so we will get a much better idea of his fitness then.
Closer to 14 than 13
our optimism for Ritz was more huge than his potential....at least on the track. His endurance was world class, his foot speed was always an issue on the track
Yeah that is probably true.. But if he had 3-4 years of injury free training, i think his resume would include some really crazy performances.
But was he relaxed?
How was his thumb position?
RITZ IS BACK BABY!!!
lick my balls
Come back when he can do 13:55... in trainers.

OK, 5k at slower than half marathon pace is very encouraging.
NOT.
It isn't even a worthwhile workout.

In what world is his 5k pace 14:10? His high school world in 2000 cross country?
Ritz got banged up at Boston--shin and calf problems--and only in the last month has he returned to full training. If he's running the 20k, his training must be going well.

A guy that takes four months to recover from a marathon sounds like a real prospect in the event.
2:07:47, third fastest American ever, 9th in 2008 Olympics: yeah, dreadful.

Disappointing?
He has a World Championship Medal in perhaps the most competitive event on the circuit.

Your ending quotation marks belong outside the period. 😜
