Kara said she'd save her story for USADA.
That doesn't sound like a corporate battle for two so-so athletes.

So what, throw down or go home.

And especially when the guy standing behind you once beat a man almost to death over completely speculative and unconfirmed allegations.
How does Starks still have a job with Nike after that incident?
Unprofessional, immature threats and bullying are one thing. Beating a man nearly to death is on a whole other level, what on earth is going on over at Nike? Who is driving this clown car?
2 people getting in a fight at a track meet would be like watching Elmo and Grover duking it out on Sesame Street.
I see it the other way around; why does Nike get so upset over a small company like Brooks? Brooks total annual sales are probably less than Nike's T&F budget. Other take aways: 1) Leer must be at the end of his contract and knows it won't be renewed, I see him running for Hoka soon.
2) Phoebe Wright will be "asked" by Nike to find another coach.
3) Nike is literaly employing that Starks guy as a hit man, maybe the most disturbing part out of all of this.
Coaches taking the USATF Coaching certification courses should also be training with a good MMA coach in case they have run ins with these Nike thugs.
Slightly off topic, but it makes the story of Meb non-renewing with Nike because they wanted to drastically cut his old contract much more understandable and believable. Good for Meb for standing his ground and moving on to Skechers.
Or Phoebe Wright will be dropped by Nike - she's good but not so good that Nike is likely to feel any great need to have her.

Capriotti owns a 1.3mil house in Portland on a 4.877acre lot. Obviously there is a lot more info with that but I'll restrain. Wasn't as hard as I thought to find.
Why are you looking this up? Too much free time on your hands after the Rossi thread? This guy has a pretty high up position with Nike so we know he makes very good money.
Let me get this straight...
Mackey stated while he was sitting next to Ulrey, he felt Capriotti grab onto is right arm and pull him up almost picking off his chair? And his response is Gimme a minute?? How can Capriotti take another step towards him if he already has a hold on him??
If someone grabbed me in that way my response would be fight or flight it wouldn't be gimme me a minute

More likely Leer gets an Adidas contract since he is coached by Warhurst

Considering Starks stepped in and told them they should leave, he's doing a poor job.

He kneeled to talk in his ear after the grab.

John has a reputation of being a hotheaded jagoff. This could not be unknown to Mackey. So it is natural to tell him to step off and then actually focus on his athlete and let Hothead Mcgee blow off steam in the meantime.
I have never told anyone that I would "kill them" . This indicates some serious maturity and anger management issues.
The verb "kill" means to take someones life. It is not an expletive, it is a violent and explicit threat to murder someone. This has been upheld in court cases numerous times.

Yeah, I've definitely never told someone I would kill them. Frankly, I'm struggling to think of any time as an adult that I've got in another persons face and yelled "F YOU" or "F OFF" either.
No, getting rid of USATF wouldn't get rid of Nike influence, but it would offer an opportunity to get out from under what currently amounts to de facto Nike ownership of American T&F [through 2040!].
Contrast with USA Swimming, which has a group of anchor sponsors, meaning they aren't wholly beholden to any one. [see

Capriotti acts like this because he is used to getting his way and those around him allow it. I really wish Mackey had press charges and let the police handle the threat. At least it might teach Capriotti to take some responsibility for what comes out of his mouth.
Flotrack has this article up giving Letsrun credit for breaking the story. They name all the witnesses and has the full police report up too. Down with Nike and AAU opps USTAF
What is that I hear?
Pre rolling over in his grave
The big issue here isn't Capriotti's blow up, rather what was he so angry about. His name being mentioned and or brought up with regard to doping allegations?? Why would he react so harshly?? Something doesn't smell right.
If he put a finger in my chest and or touched me I would've blasted him in the face!!! I don't care who he is. You need to defend yourself. You think Nike is going to tolerate that behavior from a high ranking employee. Not good PR for a global company that MUST be especially diligent with regard to legal issues and image. They don't want litigation-lawsuit issues floating around. Someone (Phil Knight) needs to step in a throttle Capriotti down. Even the "Don" (Phil) in a Mafia family needs to smack his "Capo's" (John) around sometimes.
