Mr. Wigins, this is exactly why the verdict was in favor of the cyclist. It is clear that the runner just didn't turn in his place. He got to his out and back spot, turned around, crossing the path for his return trip on the other side of the wide path without looking. Common sense dictates you should look before turning around on a multi use path.
Also, I believe the article said the guy had some hearing issues. I can't specifically remember as I read the article yesterday. Whether she announced herself or not, it is likely he wouldn't have heard her. I have rolled up on runners on the bike path and when yelling "on your left," it is apparent some hear, some don't.
Having said all that, the monetary award is ridiculous.
