In this situation it sort of is relevant because we generally have a good idea of what Rupp can do in the mile when he's in 10000 shape. Furthermore, Rupp at his best should be able to close a 10K with the final mile in the ballpark of what he ran yesterday. Not a good sign at all.
When have we had a good indication of what he can do in the mile when he's in 10k shape?
And he'll probably need to close in a 4:00 to be in contention for a medal, but just because he ran 4:00 last night doesn't mean he can't close in that at Worlds
Last year he ran a 13:19 5k and got out kicked by Collis Birmingham at Oxy, went to Pre running the 10k and closed in a 13:18 5k to win in 26:44 AR
This mile doesn't at all indicate or determine his 10k shape nor closing ability, for all we know he could be in 26:35 shape right now
Mo Farah doesn't get gold medals because he can run a 3:28 1500m, he gets medals cause he has excellent aerobic ability, can get to the last lap with less stress than the other runners, and is a great tactician
Plus the guy hasn't raced rarely at all this year, give him a break, he'll be ready to go in 9 days
