Now that everyone i coached at Cornell should have graduated (key word is should), as a Princeton alum, I guess its time for me to lead the Callahan bandwagon. I saw in Race Results weekly he won a B heat in Europe in 3:39 on August 1 and thought to myself, "I wonder how faster he'd run if he got some competition."
Looks like he raced again.
From August 4th in Oordegem, Belgium:
Men
1500 m
1 Peter Callahan USA 3:37.88 PB
2 Julian Matthews NZL 3:38.72
3 Jeremy Rae CAN 3:39.82
4 Tom Lancashire GBR 3:40.64
5 Zak Patterson AUS 3:40.73 PB
6 Hamish Carson NZL 3:43.99
7 Luc Bruchet CAN 3:46.32
8 James Hansen AUS 3:47.36
9 Jan Adriaansen BEL 3:51.87 PB
10 Cédric Van De Putte 3:54.91
Not bad. Still got the win. I wonder how fast he'll run in Portland. Of course it will be the equivalent of running at like 3 in the morning.
Peter Callahan 3:37 FTW in Belgium

Kudos to him! I saw him on a results sheet sometime in July where he was DNF (I forget which meet... maybe London?) and I thought he was acting as a pacer for that race. Wish him good luck tonight.

bumping this back up.
If only i wasn't too lazy. As i was watching the Os game about 90 minutes ago, i thought to myself. "You know couldn't callahan beat rupp. It will be a slow race. how do you beat those wheels?"
Admittedly, I still am suffering PTSD from watching callahan always outkick my guys at Cornell and outkcking rupp is another matter, but rupp is a 10k guy. All of these morons who think Rupp could be a world class miler simply because he ran a fast time indoors in a time trial don't get it. It's about acceleration.
BUt i dont' look like a genius as I was too lazy to pull out my computer and predict it. My favorite pitcher was pitching and had a nohitter goign and I didn't want to jinx hiim by pulling out my computer. -

It's not about acceleration. It's about finishing before your opponent. Waiting until a late sprint is only one of several ways to accomplish that. I can't tell if you are just trolling or if you really believe that.
As for being a 10k guy, if he switched to the mile then his acceleration and top speed would increase. -

Not enough. People think cause he ran 3:50 he'd be a good miler. No he would not. Mo Farah? yes. The acceleration you need shows up in the 5000. -

Very funny. If you can run 3:50, you're a good miler. -
Plus he is a cutie :)
