I've been running for 40 years and haven't had a good run or runner's high for about the last 25 years. It's always a struggle but I can't stop. Addictions are terrible.
At this point, a good dump is probably the best you can hope for.
This is the greatest post I've ever read on this board and possibly the greatest paragraph on running I have ever read. This also struck a chord with me because in the recent years I've witnessed my former coach and training partner have old age catch up to him, and he can no longer accompany me on long runs.
nothing
Flotrack and Milesplit - quietly working to get exclusive coverage rights for HS championships.
Has track coverage been oversaturated
The way that genetics plays such a heavy hand in who can achieve what.
People thinking Once a Runner is a good book.
I'm a fan, not an elite runner. Here's my list:
1. Lack of coverage of the sport. Flotrack is priced too high, etc. I want to watch just about every meet and I can't. Meanwhile, I'm inundated with baseball, football and basketball. Soccer's everywhere, too. I'd settle for a YouTube channel. I love that USATF generally posts all videos same day.
2. Doping. Female records are a joke. I also think all the men's records are a joke, too. 12:37 for a 5K is 4:03 mile pace for 3.1 miles. That's inhuman. The 1,500, 5K and 10K records all came before the bio passport. I think they're all dirty.
3. Crappy HS coaching. My son runs D1, but only made it to that level because of a little talent, a lot of hard work and despite his HS coaching. I know these guys don't make any $ for the amount of hours they put it. To be a good HS coach means it's a labor of love. I get it. I'm envious of the very few HS runners who actually get good coaching. The point is that we are not developing our talent in this country. Too many talented runners never make it to running in college. Maybe we should have a club system?
4. Bad TV coverage. Different than 1. I would like to see more cameras. Better splits, etc. Don't get me started on cutting away in the middle of the 10K to watch the high jumpers! Drives me nuts. XC coverage is particularly bad. I will pay $$$ for drone coverage of XC meets. One of the reasons I won't pay for Flo Pro is that the XC coverage is a joke--a bouncy camera on the back of a ATV. Are you kidding me?
5. Athletes raging on Nike. (Note: I don't care about Nike. I don't work for Nike. I don't buy their stuff. I think it's OK, but way over priced.) They float the whole boat for USATF. No one else would do that. It makes no economic sense. They do it because Phil Knight has a soft spot for the sport. Yet, the Lauren Fleshman's and Nick Symmonds' want more. Seems like a case of misplaced anger. You should rage on the suits at USATF, not Nike.
6. LRC's obsession with NOP and Rupp. Rupp is the best American born distance runner in history. He won a friggin silver medal in the Olympic 10K in the age of East African dominance! Yet, in LRC's eyes, he can do no right. But, everyone else is great (Jager, True, etc.) and is clean as a whistle. Crazy.

There were no good East Africans in that Olympic 10k. Not Rupp's fault, but don't make it sound like he beat the actually dominant East Africans. The 10k hasn't had any quality runners since 2008-2009.
I'll second the quick fill-ups on registration. Here in Maine, Beach to Beacon and the 10 mile Mid-Winter Classic fill up in literally seconds. F that shit!

What I call running relativism. Everybody's a winner. Finisher medals for everyone and the idea that a 5 hour marathon is as good as 2:30, if not better because the 5 hour marathoner is out there twice as long.
This, in its opposite form. That some losers think that those running 5 hrs have no respect for the winners without realizing they probably have more respect than you and others like you do. Someone must be jealous that someone can actually be enjoying running or making friends.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
