cat-call your mom and be her freedom fighter
I just don't believe that a guy asked you for directions.

Alan, let's ignore for the time-being your asinine comments. You do not know how to properly use "cat-calls." Cat-calling in this sense is properly used as a verb. NOT as a noun. Second, you don't even know what "verbal" means. I think you are looking for the term "oral." Verbal means words - it can be both written or oral. But when you are stressing the spoken word - you need to be using "oral." An oral agreement is one that is not written.

Right because the message board here is hurting for traffic. Literal lol at this statement. Do people in your local running club go out of there way to say they would like to post on LetsRun but don't because people say inappropriate things?

No, but a lot of people in my running community have stopped coming on the boards because threads so frequently devolve into a cesspool of racism and misogyny.
An oral agreement is what you hope to obtain from the cat-called woman.

Please give it a rest GD. YOu have been harping on this for days now. We know how you feel. And if your friends have quit coming here because of the cesspool mentality here, no great loss. We won't miss them.

That's correct. I've talked to lots of them in Kona.

It's bad when you think you are correcting someone but you don't know what you're talking about.
There's nothing stupid about being annoyed by people yelling at you when you are out for a run. All of us find it annoying. Sure, there might be the rare good or funny comment, but there are many threads on here about what to say when people yell stuff at us while we're running. And it is also the case that depending on the neighborhood, women runners get a lot more comments and that because they are less able to protect themselves, they feel more threatened by them, particularly because most of the comments are sexual and they are afraid of rape. This is not a legal question; it is a question of civility.

Only a liberal would cry "racism" and "misogyny" when they are getting their logic handed to them. Over the last week, there has been an incredible display of destroying the "racism" narrative that is over-played by the liberals.
But, since you, or your ilk can't seem to smell the roses, you RUN off. See what I did there?
jjjjj - Hold on a second! You just said women less able to defend themselves. But just 2 days ago you said women were superior in every way imaginable. You can't have it both ways!
jjjj here describing women as the far superior sex in every way:
according to this first link that popped up when I googled it, women learn better, have a higher IQ, do better at interviews, are cleaner, are more recession proof in their jobs, are more likely to graduate high school and college, far less likely to die in car crashes, and are better at remembering the remainder of this list.

I have yet to read a logical post from you. Also, people don't "cry" racism and misogyny, they use these labels to identify instances in which human beings are reduced to stereotypes based upon ignorance and misplaced anger.
This thread allegedly began to discuss one woman's attempt to have catcalling defined as a crime. Instead of debating the merits of her position, some people here realized a) that she is a woman trying to make a point about gender equality, and b) that because she is a woman that they do not find sexually appealing, it makes sense to insult her body, make inferences about her sexuality based upon her facebook profile pic, then take their ignorance a step further with a series of homophobic jokes.
That said, I guess I'll agree that I'm "a liberal" if being a liberal means that I prefer thinking through the merits of an argument rather than using my knee jerk emotional reactions to make fun of people with whom I disagree. If anything is offensive, its the inability to think carefully about important issues, including the way these issues may affect people other than oneself.

Part of being a strong female is to not let other's comments or actions get to you. Some people in life will offend you at times but get over it.
If you are going to run enough miles you are going to run into all sorts of situations and odd people. The only thing you can do is be alert and be responsible for your own safety. I worry far more about being hit by a car than anyone making me feel squeamish.
I would suggest to this stupid woman that she ask herself if she would rather some freak car try to run her down like they do male runners.
I agree; if jeering men can't handle a bit of complaint, then they should think more before they do it in the first place. Likewise, they must be prepared for the consequences if they choose to behave like that, whether that be reporting them for an offence, or a foot in their face (I made up that last bit......). I'm not aware of any agreement on the part of womankind to put up with some bunch of losers trying to boost their egos by persuading themselves some woman they've never met before is flattered by a beer-gutted butthead shouting semi-sexual remarks at them. Are you?
Alternatively, theres the ones that do it because they like making people feel uncomfortable, a bit like flashers. In fact, it might even be a pre-cursor to flashing. I wouldn't be surprised if in some cases it was. Getting a thrill out of inappropriate sexual remarks to people in a lonely or vulnerable position.
I repeat: good looking men do not cat-call women. Its ALWAYS a beer-gutted loser or a skinny misshapen runt. Its only the stupid, the unlucky, the losers, that do it. Obviously, if some weirdo butthead started making sexual remarks to you in the street, in a shop, in a park, whatever, it would be sexual harassment. The act of running does not confer immunity upon men.
And needless to say, no women with any degree of choice over who she dates would date a man like this, or continue to date him. Total losers.
Oh, and I've had the freak in the car try to mow me down when I ignored his sexual comments. And a threat to "kill me and put my body in the back of his truck" from a different one. Par for the course if you're a female runner. It doesn't make me grateful to mankind for not killing me when I'm out running. I was actually thinking the losers of Austin must be quite polite...

I've probably received more sexual harassment and sexual assault training than anyone here. It's a quarterly requirement in my line of work. There are various forms of sexual harassment with the main types being:
1. Physical: This is what we all think of when we think of sexual harrassment. Rubbing your shoulders in a suggestive manner, rubbing or pressing up against you, etc.
2. Non-Verbal: This includes winks, licking of lips, etc. This includes written words, texts, photos, and so on.
3. Verbal: This includes dirty jokes, suggestive language, etc. Whistling at someone as they run by or making suggestive noises would fall in this category.
Also, your intent doesn't matter. How it is perceived by the other party and others is what determines whether or not something is sexual harrassment. You and Sally could enjoy making lewd jokes and suggestive comments but if Billy in the next cubicle is offended then that's still sexual harrassment.
Of course, these cat-calls are happening outside and not in a work place so the chance that any sort of law is passed is near zero.
Alan
I have to admit I often cat-call women but otherwise Iwouldhave no interaction with women period. I get squeamish talking to a woman like a normal person. Cat-calling provides me with a sense of security.
That's all good and fine, GD. But we need pics of you to evaluate the content of what you say.
