Shameful? Did you even read what I wrote? Regardless of what the investigation found there was no locker room misconduct; nobody was touched, fondled, hazed, etc. If the locker room conduct argument is what you are latching on to, then your argument is baseless. Henner had no power throughout the investigation. He "did not want to ride it out" because the university and the public had already decided how they would view the allegations as fact without any base.

If you want to attack the "Scavenger Hunt" I absolutely cannot blame you. That year's "hunt" was rather vile from an outside perspective. To those on the team, it is a joke and never to be taken seriously. Ever. WITH THAT BEING SAID...it is shameful that some of us were bystanders and didn't consider the perspectives of those not on the team or those who may not view a joke as such. The adage of "words cut deep" certainly rings true in this situation. If you are familiar with the university's sanctions against the team, please know that the additional "sensitivity training" the men's team will complete is being taken very seriously. Growth and change is absolutely necessary and is being greeted with open minds by all team members. However, please know that this investigation was clouded by a stark lack of fact regarding sexual conduct.

Okay but the things you describe are much different than what is being vaguely hinted at within this thread and in some of the article comments.

I also think Social Media plays a huge part in a lot of this. For instance, we used to throw water balloons at people in the showers. We would fill the balloons with cold milk using a funnel. It was funny as hell and we would wait until the guy was done with his shower and then hit him and he would have to shower again. Everyone was fine with it. Add a camera and Instagram, and all of a sudden it is a pretty big deal.

I am about as old as you, but I think about how Social Media would have changed a lot of the dumb-ass stuff we did and made it pretty mean/bad.

Absolutely, and you are right to state that a high school kid should never fear being touched or made to feel uncomfortable. That shit is unforgivable and never welcome in our locker room.

Again, you are right regarding leadership and jokes. That must improve, and that is absolutely on us as athletes. Please understand that Henner never knew about such "hunts" or anything; he was completely in the dark. If he knew, he would have put his foot down hard. He is an honest disciplinarian who doesn't tolerate laziness or bullshit. We certainly let him down, regardless of how crude the "hunt" or our jokes are.

Once more, you are right. This is a scenario of a few jokes being blown out of proportion. It is also a scenario of a foolish boy with a personal vendetta against Henner willing to do anything in his power to ruin an innocent man's life.

It's not a matter of what you write defending your actions.

You are going to have your side of the story, which isn't going to be 100% correct.

It's a matter of what some people did. It doesn't matter if it was you or not or what your backgrounds are. Or how great servicemen you are. Some individuals on your team acted immature and inappropriately.

The fact you don't understand that and are downplaying it is really sad.

You boys are revealing yourselves to be very far out of your depth.

You cannot simultaneously say "I'm not defending x and then aggressively defend x."

Further, your attempt at making a point was adorable, but unfortunately we do have a lot of information about what went on. The fact that you have an easy time dismissing it and saying it doesn't matter is irrelevant. Further, none of the criticisms require the team to be all-white, that's just an idiotic point.

The issue is you want to be treated like adults when convenient and to still be able to hide behind 'we're harmless little boys!' when convenient.

Your actions directly led to the (likely forced) resignation of a coach. If this had just been about the dismissed charges of racism, he would likely not have been forced out.

Try to push the blame as far away from yourselves as you can, but your startling lack of self-awareness in your defenses says as much as the investigation itself into what the atmosphere on that team must have been like.

The only information available to you is the "Scavenger Hunt". If you would have read my prior posts you would have noted that I do not defend the hunt in any sense. It is foolish, vile, and hurtful regardless of its status as a joke and nothing more. It is my responsibility as a bystander to speak out against such immaturity and be a better leader; my inaction regarding such a document does not run parallel to the values of being a Jesuit man/woman for others. To an 18-22 year old boy it may be funny and seemingly harmless, but we do not remain 18-22 year old boys forever. Our collective lack of perspective from a mature and detached lens has forced an innocent man out of a job he loved with every cell of his being. I will never defend that document.

Again, if you would have read my earlier posts, you would know I am trying to rightfully disarm false accusations of locker room happenings/culture. You have zero knowledge of our locker room. You have never stepped foot inside, and you probably don't know any of us on a personal level. Your judgments/assumptions on what does or does not happen in that room are not rooted in fact, and you need to recognize that.

Your argument is based on a leap in logic. You saw a report of misconduct. you saw the scavenger hunt list. you see Henner resign and all the sanctions. So your 1+1+1= everything on the scavenger hunt list happened is shaky at best. And who in the world would have all of this hearsay thrown at them and NOT vehemently defend themselves and their teammates? If you would not, then you have never been a teammate. Or a good one at least.

Taken from the outside (and believe me, YOU are on the outside of this), it would be easy to see this as a group of animals. However, in my days at the Hilltop, and when I was in charge of putting together a hunt list or test, it was 100% spawned from the inside jokes that came from running hundreds of miles together. This year's group seemed like they went a little overboard with some of the items, but they wrote those items to make themselves laugh and 100% no intent of anyone doing anything.

My freshman year, we were handed a list that involved collecting stuff from teammate's rooms/houses and/or items from around school. Anything we could have gotten in trouble for, probably, but anything that we could have gotten Henner fired for? No. The really big stuff was always done for a laugh. No one has a gun put to their head to do any of this. The sprint and jumps squad would play along, too, but would do their own thing with their own inside jokes. We wanted them to participate with us more than anything, but they would typically blow it off. Because it WASN'T MANDATORY. The worst thing we did was steal the captain's bed and bring it to the drop off point along with a 10 gallon tub of ice cream from the caff and a keg. boom, done, no fondling.

BTW, the "privileged white boy" thing has to stop. The track kids are a hugely diverse group. My workout group was 50/50 white and black. I was middle-class and so were most of my middle distance teammates. We were on the lower end of the economic scale vs the university as a whole. Donald Trump's kid was in a few of my classes if that gives you any insight as to what kind of kid is in the general population.

So Henner gets the boot for some stupid locker BS by the kids, and the NCAA and USTFCCCA name their most prestigious award after a coach who was documented to have pissed on his athletes in the shower regularly?

Current Hoyas who are commenting one these posts..... First off you are making the poor man's life worse by responding. Responding is form of retaliation! You should know that it's quite hard for one person to get someone to lose their job. So for that matter, clearly something went down to cause Henner to step down from his position. If you want some sense knocked to you, It was YOUR damn fault the man left. By DOCUMENTING Your activities whether or not they were harmful is setting yourself up for trouble. Your great documentation caused the man his job. And from an outside source looking in with some rather interesting information, the man saw this shit coming. Prior to his resignation he had already applied and interviewed with Stanford, Duke, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Bradley and lobbied for Cornell and Wake Forest. That was all within he tenuer at Georgetown. Do you think he really cared about you? Because you ALL clearly DID NOT care about him by documenting your own foolish acts. Whether you are John Green, Ryan Gill, or Darren Fahey coming on this website (which by the way.. a rather stupid way for getting people to hear your voice), is not the legacy Patrick Henner would have wanted.

Seriously, why would you drag Henner through the mud by documenting all of the schools he has been talking to? That is a D bag move but I guess that is expected on here. We have a bunch of idiots in this sport for sure.

If you did, you would know that I am not defending the actions. I am disarming the false accusations of serious sexual misconduct in the locker room. Some of my teammates have acted immaturely outside of the locker room in their own rooms (being a bystander I, too, have acted immaturely by not considering other perspectives and speaking up against the actions in question). Such actions have objectively been spun out of proportion and have resulted in my head coach being forced to resign. You are naive to think he truly resigned voluntarily.

Neither of you know the entire story (regarding **'s hatred for Henner fueled by the fool that is **), and neither of you have any base knowledge regarding the situation at hand.

At the end of the day you could rightly conclude that our actions negatively effected Henner's image within our athletic department. I am not defending such immaturity; rather, I am telling you that our apparent lack of maturity is not the sole reason for Henner's unjust departure.

I will never stand behind the veil of the "boys will be boys" argument, but remember we're 18-22 year old boys. I can't imagine you were a saint in your collegiate days either. Maybe you ACTUALLY sexually assaulted somebody, you pervert*.
