Rupp did OK at Pre, and the 10K at USAs.
We'll have to wait and see what he comes up with.

I think Mo Farah was raising two young kids during his WC and Olympic yrs and it didn't seem to hurt his training and racing. No excuses for Rupp.
There is a difference between having two young kids and raising two young kids.
I think Rupp is crazy if even considers the 5000 for Beijing. He should focus 100% of his training on the 10k, which seems to be a vastly better event for him.
I agree that if Rupp is running well, he could be the biggest threat to Mo in the 10,000. There zero chance that race is going to be under 27. I'm guessing that 27:18 will win the race. It will be slower than that if the weather is hot and humid.
I love how all the dudes on this board are like "give Rupp a break! He's raising his kids! He's entitled to an off season being a parent. It's good he doesn't want to travel away from his kids!" And then women runners actually give birth and it's like "ugh, Kara's such a whiner. Why should women get paid in their contracts when they're pregnant." "Ugh, she's always going on about her kid, what an attention whore making excuses." "6 months should be enough time to get back in shape after being pregnant." Etc.

Seriously. Forgot that everyone gets the luxury of a two year sabbatical when they have kids.

What I really love is how you make shit up and then go on and on about it.
OP you are stupid. He made the 5 and 10 to worlds. This may end up being the first year in over a decade he doesn't PR in an event but regardless, its a world championship year, so times don't matter. All that matters is the last 200 and kicking with the best in the world, which he has shown he can do with his Silver. If you want to call someone a flop this year call Lagat a flop. "Oh he's too old," or whatever you want to say is fine. Every runner can have excuses, including the fact that Rupp did just have twins.
You just plain sound ridiculous.

It's almost as if there are multiple people with different beliefs posting on this board.

If we've reached a point in track and field where the only thing that matters is the last 200 of one race, then it's not hard to see why the sport is dying.
Times do matter, and Rupp didn't have a problem chasing times during the 2014 indoor season, which indeed featured a world championship race.
Newsflash: This isn't 2012, and Rupp has done NOTHING this season to indicate that he's capable of kicking like he did in the Olympics 10k. Remember, during that season he ran a 12:58 (another example of him by being afraid to go for a fast time in a championship year) and out kicked Lagat at the trials. There was reason to believe he would kick well at the Olympics. That isn't the case this year. If you've been paying attention to distance running at all in 2015, you would realize that there's basically NO CHANCE Rupp outkicks Farah (or the 17 year old Ethiopian, for that matter) in a championship race. Rupp has maxed out on the track and it's time to move up.

How can anyone not know that thyroids are not banned, and thus don't require a TUE? It gets pointed out all the time on the boards. There was even a big story about how some national anti-doping agencies have asked WADA to ban thyroid meds. Yet even after all that, people still don't get it.
I'm just baffled as to how people can be so obsessed with something they are so ignorant of.
I wanted to write a real reply..but then I thought let's just do this Letsrun style: You are a clown and should just stfu!!

His indoor season was his worst in ages -- an unqualified flop. Aside from winning the 10,000 at USAs, which was admittedly impressive, his outdoor season has been:
-Scratch at Payton Jordan
-Third at the Pre Classic 5000 with a 13:11
-DNS at Portland Track Festival
-third at USATF 5000
Meanwhile, while all of his teammates race in Europe, he's nowhere to be found.
This has clearly been a bad season for him. And you're on drugs if you think he has ANY CHANCE to beat Mo at Worlds.

His indoor campaign featured a subpar 2 mile and that's it. The outdoor season has been nothing special so far, and his vaunted kick was nowhere to be found in the 5000 at USAs. Is it time to admit that he peaked from 2012-2014 and it's time to move up to the marathon? He'll never win gold in the 5/10k anyway as long as Farah is competing.
I have no idea what is going on with Rupp, but being a new father is an adjustment I have seen many elite athletes go through. I was so enthralled with my first kid that It consumed me. There are lots times when should be sleeping or resting, you are doing daddy duties. Btw, you don't stop running track because you can't win a gold medal and I have seen anything to suggest Rupp can't medal in the 10K.
Rupp cancelled his indoor season due to a virus. Anyone with babies will tell you that you catch all kinds of crazy ick from them. He looked good at the 10k. He pretty much rabbitted the last 800 in the 5k when he tried to push the pace early. With some better tactics, he may have had a shot at the tape, although Hill's kick was screaming. But Rupp has always had problems with the 5k. He actually fought quite well to out-lean a hard charging Heath at the tape. We have all seen Rupp fade pretty badly the last 200m of a hard 5k.
I would not for a minute say that Rupp's 2015 has been a failure. He has definitely looked better. But there is no reason to believe that he has peaked given the health issues during indoors. I would suspect that he is definitely going to be focused on the 10k for worlds. After Rio, he will more than likely run the marathon and be done with the track. So, the 10k is his best shot at medals from here on out.
The 10k has always been his best chance at medaling, he can stay more relax and out-endurance the same guys he can't outkick, he's always been there with a lap to go and he will be at Beijing, both 5 and 10
People are saying he doesn't look as sharp in 2015, but to be honest, other than Kijelcha, the Kenyans and Ethiopians haven't looked as sharp either
Ndiku is coming back from injury
Alamerew is just getting back into shape
Gebremeskel is just getting back into shape
Koech/J Kipkoeck/T Bekele/Jelian haven't looked the same
K Bekele and Gebregebremariam are on the roads
Edris/Merga/Tanui/Karoki and maybe Soi are in decent shape
Where's Tadese/Teklamarium?
Compared to 2012/2013, the Kenyans/Ethiopians aren't as sharp
Rupp had an OK race at Pre
He had a GREAT race in the 10k at USA's
And a SUBPAR race in the 5k at USA's
But don't count him out at Beijing
I think because of his illness during indoor season, it might have put Rupp out a little longer than expected and Salazar may have reroute his training to where they don't start speed work til very very late in the season
Will he get gold in the 10k? No, I think Farah has him, Farah w/ his 3:28 and win in DL Lausanne has shown he's still on top...
Silver/Bronze? I think Edris/Megra/Tanui/Karoki are his top challengers, but he CAN still pull it off!

blood transfusions weren't banned in 1984 either, but they were scandalous just the same, as they should have been.
His 10000m at USAs was one of his most impressive races of his career. In the peak of crisis he dominates the best US field ever assembled for a 10k. Made Ben True look average despite being a sub 13/27 potential runner. Not quite where he was when he ran 26:44, but he is a heavy favorite to medal at 10000m.
I'm calling it right now. With 900m to go Mo is going to take the lead at worlds. Galen will go with him and there will only be 5 runners left with 400 to go. And they will finish 1-2 with a mere 57 last lap, but their last 1000 will be 2:23.
Well it clearly is You're as I am saying, "You are an Idiot..."
And yes in championship races, the last 200 is the only thing that matters. And it doesn't mean that the sport is dying at all, quite the opposite. Would a casual fan rather see the last 2 minutes of a 10k where one guy has destroyed everyone and is chasing a time or a pack of runners gathering for a mad sprint. There is a reason the 100m final is one of the most highly watched sporting events and it isn't a secret; people enjoy watching close races.
As for his fitness, no it hasn't shown like it has in the past but guess what, every season isn't exactly like the one before. If you have been paying attention to running at all this year you would see that the 5 and 10k runners have done nothing special at all. Nothing. Its all the 1500 boys tearing it up right now. Its anyone's game in the 10k, besides Farah still having crazy speed. He took down True at USA's and True beat a bunch of studs so if you going with the transitive property from 2012 to now I'll use the transitive property that Rupp can beat all of those guys True did. See, that just doesn't make a lot of sense.

True is certainly in sub 13 shape, but no way is he a sub 27 guy and I don't think he ever will be. He just doesn't seem to fit that event well. So in reality I don't think his 10k at USAs was anything but par coming from a 26:44 guy running against guys well off his ability.
Notice how the tables turned in the 5K against True who should have recovered more poorly than Rupp considering he cruised that 10k far more within his ability than True.
I'd say he still has a shot at silver; before this year I thought he was a potential gold threat, but now, no chance he beats Mo and I wouldn't be shocked to see him not medal at all because I don't think there have been any signs that his fitness has improved since last year.
But we should still see a better version of him at World's compared to USAs since he's had more time for all the scandal stuff to gradually subside in public discourse.
