Ok, for all of you Rowbury haters out there, how about this? In today's race, Rowbury is the new Solinsky, little David who slew big Goliath?
Before you write me off completely, consider this. Before the race the discussion about whether the American record would be broken was all about Simpson. I can't think of anyone who mentioned Rowbury as a serious candidate. Very few people even put her in the discussion.
And yet, when it was all said and done, she is the one with the record.
I think the difference between how she and Jager are talked about is telling. It's hard to argue that he's more deserving than Rowbury. Like Rowbury, he didn't win. Unlike Rowbury, he should have won. He didn't because he blew the race. He screwed up by falling. But screwing up only turned him into a "brave hero."
To be clear: Jager deserved every word of praise that he got. I'm just pointing out how much better he's been treated treated than Rowbury. As I said before, that strikes me as unfair.
(And yeah, I get that the focus should be on Dibiba. That's why I said exactly that.)
Now, get off my lawn, ok?
