Cramps
This thread is full of 2:55 guys exploring a ridiculous fantasy that they might be able to beat Centro in a marathon. Barely dips under 3 hours? Really? What is that, like 6:45 pace? A joke for Centro, no doubt. All kinds of average Joes can break 3 hours. Centro is a truly anamolous athlete. Even without training for the event he would be under 2:30 without a doubt.
Get real people.
I'm smoking/drinking this hypothetical scenario of the OP. What's your excuse?

4:30 pace to 10 miles? What are you smoking/drinking?

Seriously? This can't be your real opinion. Even as a miler, I'm sure he runs 80-90 miles a week, which would have to include decent length long run (15-18) miles every week. And AlSal has said he makes sure his guys do their easy days faster than 6:00/mile. So you're saying a guy who runs 80-90 miles a weeks with easy pace under 6:00/mile couldn't run 26 miles at 6:50/mile? Do you realize how easy a 3:00 marathon would be for any professional? Never mind a professional as talented as this Centro.
I would bet he could run a bit faster than his regular easy pace over 26 fairly easily. With his 5K ability (13:20) it wouldn't be surprising for him to scare 2:20 or even 2:15 if he were motivated enough and he paced it right.

The only way I could see that happening is if it was a marathon with all the world's best and everyone but the winner got executed.
This is a more interesting premise. Who wins in this scenario? I don't think it'd be someone unexpected like Centro or some crap, but what if all the best marathoners in the world duked it out all at once, giving their 100% all in a super high stakes race?
I've always thought it would be SO COOL for nike (or any other company, I just see nike having the money) to put on a marathon with HUGE prize money and bonuses for national records and $100,000,000 for a world record. All the good guys would come out! All of them, there would be 20 guys sub 2:06 and a winner probably dang close to the world record if not the WR. With prize money Staggering down from $300,000 to like $30,000 for 10th place there would be unreal times.

You're assuming he's still in 13:20 shape. With his new 800 speed, it's possible that he has lost some of that 5k ability

Centro is not Oprah. He'd have more pride than to jog/walk to the finish in some highly inflated time.
I know little about how a world class miler trains, but I'd guess the mileage is relatively low. My guess is he'd go out at what he'd consider a very conservative pace, then be surprised when the soreness crept into his legs 18-20 miles. At that point, rather than start walking, he'd DNF. I respect that. It's all speculation, of course.
And.here is the answer. Right here.
I was a 1:46-1:47 800 meter guy. Middle Eastern, not American. There is no way I could have finished a marathon. Not without walking.

Anyone can finish a marathon. If you have to walk, then you didn't pace yourself correctly.
Duane Solomon would go out hard for the first 700 meters, and then start walking
He peaks at 90 a week. He could run sub-2:20 in his sleep.
