Frankly, Ireland's national records aren't that great, nor that bad throughout the sprints and distances. 10.18/20.30/44.77 all compare favorably to many countries. 1:44.82 is not very impressive but well under the IAAF qualifier, similar to 3:33.5 enroute to mile, which is not bad, but certainly not great, and it's known as a country of milers (obviously, indoors is where Coghlan and O'Sullivan dominated). Now Mark Carroll's 7:30 is strong, just a bit behind Lagat's AR, and Cragg (South African, right?) ran 13:03, which is solid but again not great.
