I've got a hairless spot on my head too. Does that make me bald? I tell you this: the girls like it.

Yeah, I totally had him pegged for being a very bright 13-15yr old.... writing very well, just with nothing of substance to say. But 43... yikes.
Any more jabs you would like to take at Warhurst/UM. You sure do like to rip on the Maize and Blue. The training didn't seem to bother Nate running 1:46 after being injured. But hey, Nate believed and had confidence in the training. I think you have beat the subject to death.
Somehow I don't think the coaching was the problem...but hey, we all know your opinion won't change ttc.

Maybe I was quick to take a jab at Warhurst. But he and the program have been taking jabs at Webb even AFTER he left, which Webb has never done in return. In addition, while he was there, Warhurst was putting out 3:48 possibilities/pressure for everyone to see.
If the coaching just didn't work out, I wouldn't say much at all. But Warhurst and U-M have been continuously criticizing Webb and leaving him out to dry. That is what I do not like.
I think Webb is the best. He'll be much better by being with a coach he trusts. I look for him to really amaze some people again this summer- maybe even indoors. He's already out of his Michigan slump from last year.

Webb deals with his h.s. coach behind Warhurst's back, leaves school after the NCAA meet his freshman year when he doesn't run as fast as HE AND Warhurst think he is ready for, and then doesn't even have the courtesy to tell Warhust face to face...he has to do it via a phone call. So Warhust says he thinks Nate will beat Webb and he becomes the bad guy? Please, Warhurst has every right to lay into Webb and hasn't yet.
Maybe more will come out in Chris Lear's book.
maybe people have to realize Webb is no longer in highschool, yet he is continuing to strive to be the best highschool miler. I can't run 3:53, but I know 3:53 won't win shit when it counts...

Just the opposite, Webb has every right to lay into Warhurst for causing his injury. Webb doesn't owe Warhurst a thing--just the opposite--Webb owes Warhurst a law suit for several million dollars. And that would be the easiest WIN Webb would have in his life.
Shalom out!
So has anyone confirmed if Webb ran this 800 meter time trial or what? I did hear that he was off to train at altitude somewhere.
Yes. It's true. I know he's not in Boulder (I won't tell you where he is) and also know that he ran 1:47 point (I don't think he would care if I said that). I know him pretty well. I know that he sometimes eats sandwiches and gets mayonnaise on the side of his mouth. The funny thing is, he never realizes it. I don't think he can feel his face.
Dang, I try and sign on and...anyhow, rumors are just that. Anybody know where I can find a Krispy Kreme place around here?

UMFan,
Telling Warhurst over the phone is admittedly not the best way to do things, but Webb stated that he was home for a while and decided then not to go back. Therefore, it should be understandable him not making the road trip.
Also, too much was made of Webb's contact with his HS coach. He talked to the guy once/week. To say that the conversations added seconds to his times is excuse-making. Most important, he was running U-M workouts very hard and very fast and did everything asked of him. He very clearly bought into the system, until the system failed him at outdoor nationals (not to mention running his 800's 4 seconds slower than in HS). With regards to him not racing to his fitness level, Webb has proven that he will lay it on the line for maximum effort in a race.
The faults most distubing with Warhurst are not even coaching-related. They were his throwing the unreal expectations out to the public during last year's track season...Then when things don't work out, he complains that Webb was in contact with his HS coach too much...Then he suggests to the media that Webb isn't mature enough to be a professional...Then during XC, he permits the media to come to the team and write articles centered on how they are better without Webb, because he ran too hard and fast in his workouts.
In return, Webb has taken the high road. I call them like I see them.
I've been around Warhurst a little and know he is very big on building up his runners confidence and its not unsual for him to suggest you're ready to run a lot faster than you think. I think all he suggested that Webb was capable of running 3:37 or something like that.
I would rather have that in a coach than one who was always telling you to go out in the back of the pack and shoot for 6th place like my coach did. Its two different psychological philosophies really.
One is to try to get you to always aim high and get confidence from your coach's belief in you.
The other is making sure you don't set yourself up for a big letdown and makes it more likely you come away with perceived success.
Nonetheless I thougt Webb's demeanor after leaving Michigan was fine. He wasn't going around publicly criticizing Warhurst he just felt something else would work better for him.
I think Webb is the best. He is so nice and he has very pretty eyes and he smiles like Julia Roberts. I want to have his babies, but I don't want to marry him. I want to marry Dathan. Dathan is the best. He is so nice and he has very pretty eyes and he is just a sweety pie. He has nicer sexier legs than Charo and he can definitey get down and do the boogie-woogie.
ttc, the opposite of everything you've had to say is true. perhaps the most serious error is saying coach SR only called once a week. the can't-cut-the-ties calls came about once a day. those calls did as much as anything else to undermine the overhyped situation. you read too much into Ron's comments.
"maybe people have to realize Webb is no longer in highschool, yet he is continuing to strive to be the best highschool miler. I can't run 3:53, but I know 3:53 won't win shit when it counts..."
No American has run a faster mile in the last 3 years. I know, I know. That and 25 cents will get me a cup of coffee.

and thats why america has had no champs or any one worth a damn in the mile in forever. PS mile means shit, and in the 1500 where the run for gold, Krum's time kicks AW's time ass.

This has to be the most hilarious/ridiculous statement I have seen on the board in a while. I guess I owe Ronnie a lawsuit as well. Hell, I lost 3 months of training last year with my injury. I wonder how much I could get? (Probably nothing since Ronnie didn't cause mine, Nate's, Broe's or Webb's injury). Although, it may hurt the coach/athlete relationship that got me back at the end of the season.
I guess Teter needs to sue Gags then for her injury; and Marion Jones should sue Trevor Graham for that back injury at the 1999 World Champs.
With all the money we would rake in on lawsuits we would be better off being injured the whole time.
I don't get why this keeps coming up...both Webb and Warhurst are happier than they were 6 months ago so the subject probably needs to die.

Oh, right, like we are suppose to believe some nameless, faceless person who thinks they have the inside info... oh wait, this is someone who actually does have the inside info!
Kevin, are you going to run in any of the indoor meets at UofM this winter?
Last points I'll make (I think) is that it was pretty low for the U-M team (some members anyway) to dominate their comments in an article by attacking Webb. Warhurst definitely should have oversaw what was going on and put a stop to it. On second thought, Warhurst mildly ripped on Webb, with his Nate over Alan comment, so he was a part of it. I know that no former coach or teammate of mine would berate other team members. After the criticisms/comments last spring, I thought Warhurst was through.
If Webb ran 10 seconds slower and Warhurst didn't keep hanging him out to dry, then I wouldn't be making these posts. How well Nate (slower miler, faster half-miler since college) is running has nothing to do with my point.
