JAGER NOOOOOO
I cannot believe that just happened
noooooooooooooooooooooooo 8:00.45
What courage! Extraordinary race. Celebrate it; don't bemoan it.
I would like to officially apologize to Evan Jager and Jerry Schumacher and all americans for jinxing him.On the penultimate lap, I tweeted
letsrundotcom tweeted:
unless he falls, it looks like Evan @EvanJager will be history's first non -African under 8:00. Wow !!

WHAT. Jager WINNING the race with 50m to go and falls on the LAST barrier! Certainly a new American record, very close to 8:00, oh my god!
Jager will medal at worlds. If he doesn't break 8 this season he will next year. I think falling here will be the best thing that ever happens to him.
why the fvck would you tweet that rojo, dammit
I think that he may have been on high 7:56 pace on that last barrier. Calling jager and coburn for world champions now
If he did not fall he would have been 7:56, hopefully he can get in another race in the next 2 weeks sub 7:55?
Keep in mind it's still just barely july, in 87 degree conditions, and he fell on the last barrier.
He still ran 8:00.45
That's insane.
Certainly on another night he could get sub 8.
Also, - THIS IS HUGE FOR HIS MEDAL CHANCES
So many big names in the field, he F*cking went for it
Impressive that he got up and finished though.

F*ck you.
I agree.
Sometimes things like this make the difference between pretty good and outstanding.
See El Guerrouj or Tergat/Haile.
It will make him extremely tough mentally.
I try to keep from posting nowadays on account of how toxic this board has become, but just had to step in to say how utterly CRUSHED I am for Evan Jager. That is no way to lose a race. He'd completely destroyed the best in the world and deserved the win. Hope he wins the gold at the worlds.
Extremely impressive that after the race all the top Africans went over to congratulate him. I've never seen that before.
Biggest chance for a track WR for a long time, with the better chance for Ayana I would say.
birech what time?
Nice run Evan! I feel for him.
