Why would she be used to running barefoot?
So her feet wouldn't be so weak and get all torn up?

I'm sure her feet are weak. Yours, meanwhile, are so fit from running barefoot that you just qualified for Worlds!!!
Wait...
Go sprint, all-out, for 600 meters on a mondo track and report back to us.
To think Zola Budd broke the 5k world record barefoot.
What a talent. Huddle's American record is only 4 seconds faster than Budd's time that day 30 years ago!!!!
It was quite obvious from watching TV that it was a breathing device.
Her shoe came off around 2:43 into the race. You can see it chilling on the ground as the runners pass by it.

Dude, some other Shoe Finder posted this like 3 hours ago. He even used the name Shoe Finder, and he made it much easier to find by giving the time of the video, not the race. Get with the program. No one likes your post!

Yes, please!
Your level obsession with all things Shannon Rowbury is very strange, creepy, and unhealthy. Also, your posts are annoying.
Thank you.

Nice addition to this thread; props to Zola Budd who no doubt had toughened soles.
It has been a while, so I'm curious whether running on a mondo track with socks on is actually more detrimental (friction-wise) than barefoot.
The track at Hayward was insanely hot. More than the friction, the heat would have instantly started peeling skin as soon as she was sock footed. I'm guessing the picture was taken after the final as once the foot has gone pulp, even with a shoe on more damage would have been done in spikes. I've been there as coach and athlete. Very tough run in the final for her. Major props!

The girl is tough. Major props!
Remember last year she came back to make the 5000 team after missing the 1500, fading near the end and then reeling in a team spot!

Running in socks around the track will actually damage your feet more than going barefoot because of the friction between the sock and foot.

Shoe Finder wrote:Thanks for the video. If you pause the video at 4:48, you can see the shoe come out from behind the back of the pack with just about 600 to go. I had to pause it like 3 times to get it right, but you can see it.
Strange she'd get skin torn off in 600 meters. She must not be used to running barefoot at all.
Remember it was 95F+ for some of those days. A super hot track and a bare foot would do it easily.

Careful to not wear it too long.
Forgot the photo.

Only if you're stupid, and wear cotton socks. I always use nylon for socks.

I've run a 52 400, and 23 second 200 barefoot on a torn up rubberized track, much harder on the feet than the one in Eugene, though I usually wore spikes for sprints.
I wonder if the nasal dilator she wears actually helps. I sometimes sleep in one and it's uncomfortable. I don't think I could run in one. It does help with breathing. Rupp still wears the Breathe Right strips.
First round. You can see the shoe fly off at about 2:44 of the race. Amazing she was able to win the round and then finish second in the final.

I heard it mentioned that her foot was all torn up. Did this happen during the first round? I assume it was not as raw two days later. Still must have been very painful.
The nose ring and chewed up feet is very exciting to me.
Not on a track that was 105-110 degrees.

So what is it? 2:43 or 2:44? I don't know who to believe now!!
