I am currently a senior in high school and although my main interest in sports is soccer (i know i know) I would still like to run well this year in track.
My freshman year I ran the 1600 and 800 with times of 4:54 and 2:08 respectively. My sophmore year I ran 17:00 for 3 miles. However, I soon realized that I had to make up my mind between soccer and track and I chose soccer..(my bad guys).
This is my senior year and I realize that if I don't run track I will have so many regrets. I have pretty good natural speed and the longer the distance, the more I struggle. I would really like to concentrate on the 400 and 800 this year because these are the events that I think I will have the best chance of reaching state in. The only thing is, I have never raced a 400 all out.
So my question is, can anyone give me some advice to how I would go about training this year to peak in 2.5-3 months and also, what is your strategy for the 400? I know it varies from person to person but I would like to get some different perspectives from you guys. My coach is kinda "out there" so I would really appreciate any help.
