We can't make this up. We just got the following email about our prediction contest (We forgot to change the cutoff times for mens and womens 5000 after the time of the races were changed due to hot weather in the forecast):
In the name of #cleansport, I feel compelled to admit a glitch in the prediction contest that occurred this meet allowed me to "win". It would be hypocritical for me to speak out against Salazar for, in my opinion, violating the spirit of athletics by operating under the notion that anything short of being caught cheating is acceptable, while I simultaneously was doing just that in a track related prediction contest.
The 5000m options did not disappear right after the races concluded this morning, so when I went back to check the entries I was able to switch both races to get a perfect sweep in the men's and women's 5000m races. I believe my actual predictions before the race were Tully/Mackey/Flanagan and Rupp/Lagat/Hill. From looking at the overall results and clicking on some leaders, it looks like a few others noticed this and also switched to get perfect in the 5000m.
While I was technically able to register those picks, I don't want the cheap win, and would have placed decent with my original picks (like Rojo, I was burned by Bowie in the 200m!). I've won a gift certificate from one of these before and it feels better when it is legitimate.
Cheers,
XXXX
Editor's note: We are cancelling the picks of everyone who picked the 5000s perfectly (5 people) and rescoring. Our emailer will get a free LRC (Not Rupp Certified) TShirt.
