Finally got to watch the race, and wow. Rupp just got smoked. Barely even made the team.

Once again, you prove yourself to be the single biggest a**hole --among hundreds of *gigantic* a**holes-- in all of LR.
What an achievement.
Regardless of doping, it's pretty obvious that the order would be true rupp hill if they hadn't already ran the 10k, especially if this was a faster race. I was getting kinda worried about ben after 3k when he was trying to move up but kept falling back.

I already don't give a shit who is going to win WC gold in 13:35. What a waste to go through this stupid process year after year.
Just can all the champs, including the irredeemably corrupt olympics, and base track on the euro circuit, with a scoring system devised to reward fast races.

But I will say that maybe using some better language to start a thread. You guys are professionals.
Maybe instead it could've been:
Ryan Hill takes down True and Rupp
It would sound less bias.
Until Rupp proves otherwise, I think his closing speed is a major question mark. Its becoming doubtful to me that his 2012 form, when he ran down Lagat in a 53 second final lap, will ever return. You can see his lack of confidence in his closing kick with his race strategy. He's now depending on a longer surge from 1000-1200M out to break the field instead of starting from 600M. Maybe it just reflects a shift in training and the speed will be there at the WC. But again, I'm doubtful.

2 points here.
1 - This goes to show how much getting an IV can help. Rupp wins this easily if he had gotten his normal recovery. And there is nothing illegal in a regular IV, which goes to show how much the gray area can help. Rupp barely qualified in a race won in 13:50; a time the top US HSers can surpass. That looks really bad.
2. Rojo does not need to be "professional". This is not the 1950s anymore. Yes, it's annoying sometimes, but it's also refreshing to know he's not being "professional" just so he looks politically correct. There is nothing wrong with either of the Brojos rooting against certain runners or teams; that's half the fun of sports in general! I hated the Celtics and Pistons growing up because I was a Laker fan and wished Chick Hearn would have ripped on those cheating scumbags more often...especially Laimbeer!

I don't think even He could save Rupp at this point.
Obviously the race played out differently than it would have to for top HS boys to run 13:50, but the fact he had no kick off that pace looks suspicious after seeing how he's closed out every other race on a pace like that over the past 3-4 years.

lol okay I overreacted. I think Ben True has stepped up hugely in the past couple years, but you're right Galen has an asymptotic improvement in the 5k. I bet he would have looked dominant with some help pushing the last several laps.

If we're going to be civil here, and it appears we are, Galen has a lot on his plate right now so the stress alone would be enough to keep him from sleeping properly. I can't imagine how stressed he is right now when he is trying to sleep. Maybe he's taking sleeping pills to help with that, but even then. Whether he's innocent or not he's probably having some pretty horrible dreams. He just doesn't have that ruthlessness of a Lance Armstrong who probably never lost any sleep over just about anything he did.

Rupp ran a 1:54.3 last 800m, his PR is only 1:50.0
"Rupp wound it down even more on the penultimate lap with a 58.76. At the bell, Hill and Torrence were right with him (there was a slight gap to Lomong, True, Lagat and Heat) but it looked as if we were in store for a repeat of Thursday’s 10,000 final.
"But the slow early pace meant that several big kickers were still in the race and as they tore down the backstretch, Rupp struggled to create separation. Torrence made a bid for the lead and drew level with Rupp with 200 to go; midway around the final turn, only Lagat had been dropped and the three spots to Beijing were still very much up for grabs."
And:
"he still ran well, closing his final 1600 in 4:00.33 and his final 800 in 1:54.30. He simply got beat by some fantastic performances from Hill and True."
I don't see Rupp as having lost a step, rather the other guys have caught up.

I knew that I would get this response and probably should have been more clear: True is not competing for any medals at the WCs although some of the guys that he beat in New York might be. This is due to the fact that the pace in NY was truly pathetic. Same type of thing happened today. This should be obvious to all. Rupp's loss here was about as "Holy ***!!" worthy as his "loss" to Bumby in the heats a few years back.
None of the Rupp fans in the stands really gave a carp, after the weather this week, which was punishing to even the crowds in the shade...
It was all about making the team. Mission Accomplished.

lol I'm pretty sure someone who runs 3:51 indoors can beat 1:50
Pharmacologically or in training that develops a finish (or both)?

Old Man Winter wrote:
Do you really wish Heath would have beaten Rupp? Rupp has a better chance of medaling in the 5k at Worlds this year than anyone else in the field. Heath would be ecstatic to come top 10.
No True does. I like Rupp's chances in the 10k though, but he has very little chance to medal in the 5k.

The thing is , we don't know what type of training they have been doing. My guess is rupp hasn't done any real speed stuff yet. He is all about worlds and may have underestimated the competition. That and I'm sure the allegations took their toll.
