Just get rid of these jogathon USA championships.
It seems like a legitimate suspicion to think that Rupp may not have had his IV in this case. He didn't look super human as he has for that past three years. Truthfully, this was his kind of race.
Without the recovery methods he's used to having access to, he looked like a guy who raced a 10k in the heat a few days ago. Hill looked like the guy who hasn't raced in this meet.
Incidentally, the same was true on the women's side. The tired girls looked tired. The fresh girls looked fresh. That's a good sign of a cleaner race.
True is one patient MF. He sits out there in 4th-5th 10m off the front for a loooong time before finally moving decisively at 200m. Torrence was clearly too aggressive fighting off folks running up on his shoulder in lane 2. Heath was painfully close. A very strong pack of 6 with two laps to go. Very fun to watch and to see Hill finally break through.
Rojo, you Sir, are totally unprofessional.
Basically you are a punk. Your complete disdain for Rupp, Salazar, Nike et al has turned you, a so called journalist, into a two bit troll.
I'd say a "Hill wins 5000m followed by True and Rupp" would of been professional. You chose the troll route, congrats to you.
It's time you grow up and attempt to lead by example. Are you capable?
Strange, I always thought the main objective is to qualify for the US team.....Rupp and True could have gone home after the 10k but stayed and ran anyway and only one fresh runner beat them.......btw, this website is getting more amateurish by the day. It is one thing for anonymous people to spout off but not journalists themselves. It is getting tiresome.
I don't understand racing? Please. Allow me to elaborate on the two examples that you have given because they perfectly illustrate my argument.
Farah closed the 2012 Olympic 5000m (which was the slowest Olympic 5000m since '68, mind you) with a 2:25 for his final kilometer. His last lap was 52.9 seconds. He did not even have the fastest final lap in the field.
Farah closed the 2013 World Championships in 53.51 seconds (a full second faster than Hill's final lap today) in a race that was 24 seconds faster. While Farah's WC time was similar to what True managed in NY, please consider that True's final 400m was a (comparably) pedestrian 55.14 seconds.
Anyways, I am just as thrilled as anyone to see Hill and True running well. I realize that my posts may not make it seem that way. For that, I apologize. Even though he certainly didn't look sharp today, I would still say that Rupp is our only true medal threat in the 5000m. I would love to be proven wrong.
Good points...I think I misunderstood your point about True's DL win being meaningless because it was slow...sorry!
BTW Tim Broe timed True's last lap today was 53-high...on post-10k legs. Its a good sign he will be in the mix with Farah et al.
Does anybody else think True should drop the 10000 and just run the 5000 at Worlds? With his DL win and a 13:02 under his belt I think he has an outside shot at medal in the 5000, especially off a slower pace.

He did.
Agreed that Hill and True are still a notch below medal threat, disagreed that Rupp has a better chance than they do.
Rupp has an outside shot at a medal, I think True might have a better shot though when he doesn't have to double back from the 10k.

I still like Rupp's chances against Hill in a sit and kick race where the finishing time is closer to 13 than it is 14. That was pathetic.
Yeah, in a race so slow it's not a big deal, especially with Rupp coming back from the 10k, even it was fairly easy. Once the race is below 13:15, True and Hill might be able to hang on for good or great times, but they will be non-factors.

I'll actually correct myself - I think they are all even at a "low but not impossible" chance. Depends a lot on how the race plays out. Moderately fast favors True and Rupp's chances, and in a slow race I think Hill beats them again. Assuming they all make the finals, that is (which might be wishful thinking).
Rupp put a lot of his sprint into holding off Torrence from 200 out. Given that he'd run that 10,000 in the heat, using his strength from 3 laps out was a smart more to make the team.
Great race for Hill, great weekend for True.
True at worlds in 2 events!
It would be cool if all 3 guys could make the 5000 final.

What on earth was Awad doing in this..? To come all the way out there to run like that? in that slow a race where at least until last 1200 it should have been comfortable? Wow. Talk about a non effort?
Every one has a "bad race", but this was probably more weather related, it had to be brutal out there!
Why does Rupp even bother with the 5000?
Can't break 13.
Has never won one internationally.
I believe that 12:58.9 qualifies as breaking 13.
54.xx isn't too crazy from Hill, but that final 100m was really special; coming off the turn he stutter stepped, turned slightly to get into lane 2, and then accelerated so quickly. I don't know if he would be able to replicate this in a sub 13:30 race (or if he would even be near the front), but his final 100 is something that few people in the world can match.
