They have to have met more recently, but in 2010 they ran the 5,000 at Payton Jordan. Flanagan lead by 6 seconds for most of the race. Rowbury cut that down to 4 seconds on the penultimate lap, and then ran Flanagan down. She won by almost 4 seconds.
The video's worth a look, especially the last lap when Alberto sprints across the infield to give advice to Flanagan.

Great find! I had forgotten all about this. I remember thinking at the time that Shannon was mowing down Shalane so quickly on the backstretch that she appeared to hesitate fractionally -- as competitive as Shannon is, no one was "supposed" to roll the undisputed queen of American distance running at the time -- and that this may have cost her a sub-15:00.
