What I think is frustrating, is that Wejo, and particularly Rojo, have continually demonstrated that they will pump and believe any claim against Salazar while seeming to doubt, or adequately consider, counter claims. To me it is clear they want to be a part of a big story, and are hesitant to even consider anything that casts any doubt on the narrative they want. Rojo clearly demonstrated this yesterday, and it is more of the same last night and this morning where they have done nothing but focus on items they think undermine Salazar.
Epstein made some good points in his rebuttal. After all of this, we still haven't got an adequate explanation from Alberto on a general issue of passing out prescription painkillers, etc. or on items like what Fleshman reported of seemingly trying to influence the dosage of a prescription for a non-medical reason.
That being said, I didn't think Epstein's rebuttal was as good as Salazar's, granted it was issued with little lead time. Some items like the employment termination letter could mean absolutely anything. Those kind of letters are word-smithed all the time to not necessarily reflect reality. I thought Salazar harping on an interview Magness did with Runnersworld was not as convincing as he intended it to be, and I also think Epstein/Magness focusing on an employment termination letter doesn't mean what they hope it does either.
Epstein then says "Salazar began today's rebuttal by addressing an allegation about Salazar's star athlete that neither ProPublica nor the BBC made", and then goes on to talk about Rupp's prednisone use and how neither ProPublica or the BBC ever claimed he continually used prednisone from the age of 15. Salazar' using the age of 15 should be used as a general reference to high school. The fact that ProPublica and BBC were talking about Prednisone use at age 16 is consistent with that. To come in and say "hey we never said anything about age 15" is just dumb. The BBC released and article with statements from Stuart Eagon that clearly implied Rupp was regularly using prednisone since high school. The BBC article states I have heard from various sources that Rupp has used prednisone regularly. For Epstein to say neither ProPublica or the BBC made that claim is false unless your'e going to harp on the difference between "regularly" and "continually".
My biggest issue with Epstein's response is that he takes things that Magness and the ProPublica article clearly presented in a negative/incriminating way (like the Mayo clinic urine test) and says that Salazar's response confirms the ProPublica information. On the prednisone/Mayo Clinic issue Salazar provided unquestionable documentation showing his only purpose was to make sure they didn't break doping rules regarding in-competition prednisone use. For Epstein to now act like Salazar just confirmed their report is ridiculous. If he knew the details of the Mayo Clinic incident, as Salazar documented it, why did he even report it in his initial report?
Regarding the IV, I actually think the evidence is in Salazar's favor. There could be legitimate reasons someone would need an IV. Salazar says Rupp has never received a TUE for an IV or saline drip. Unless Epstein can show that he has, why is it a big deal if Salazar was upset Rupp couldn't get one in hot/humid conditions? If he just breaks the rules and goes behind everyone's back, why would he be pissed and screaming when he couldn't get one through the proper channels? Maybe Salazar isn't being forthcoming that he wanted one, or maybe his accusers misunderstood the B12 shot and magnesium infustion to be something else, but either way what I see is Salazar trying to work within the system not outside of it.
Epstein made some good counter points, and pointed out issues that Salazar did not really address, but a lot of his response still lacked the documentation of Salazar's. Maybe he will provide it, but a some of his new information is just opinions "I was telling the truth" or statements that don't really mean anything like the Areson quotes. Both Epstein and Salazar made some good counterpoints. I'm left back at square one thinking that Salazar
