Did not see that coming!
Did not see that coming!
3:32.97 to be precise! #2 time in the world (and maybe rightfully #1). Now his 1500 lines up the Tahri and Bennabad
Such a good run by Jager, can't wait to see what else he brings out this season.
It is a great time for sure, but he shouldve done this year's ago. Better have said thanks to Garett Heath for escorting Jager all the way until last straightaway.
Good to see steeple / 5 k improve his mile after several years. Hopefully he can close a little faster this year. He already got an A/ R this year.. I hope for a medal.
Now it becomes important to dq that Marseille 1490m time!
Faster than Jim Ryun must be top 12-14 AllTime USA
Agree did not see it coming
2015 3:39.40 Palo Alto, CA 02 MAY
2014 3:38.10 Eugene (Hayward Field), OR 31 MAY
2013 3:36.34 Los Angeles (OC), CA 17 MAY
2011 3:38.80 Los Angeles (OC), CA 21 MAY
2010 3:38.53 New York City, NY 12 JUN
2009 3:38.33 Heusden-Zolder 18 JUL
2008 3:41.24 Palo Alto, CA 04
^need to add his miles to that list for a better idea of his progression
his mile 3:53 3 =3:36 x so it's a leap

Ridiculous post. He does great in an off-event & you criticize that he should've done it years ago. And sorry that another runner was in the vicinity. He "should've" dusted everyone by 3 seconds.
Helluva PR for a guy who runs the distance once a year. What a talent.
I'm stunned to see no claims of doping. I don't think he is, but this is LRC, and anybody who runs a world-class-level PR often gets called a doper.
With this time, he's got a shot at making the USA squad at Worlds in 1500m.
However, I'd really rather see if he can go 8:00 or 8:01 in the steeple. Mekhissi-Bennabad (sp?) hasn't raced much this year, Paul Koech is getting old, and the Kiprutos (Brimin & Conseslus) are either missing or running times like Koech. So that just leaves Kemboi, Birech, and (I hope) Jager. I'm feeling bronze for the boy, for sure, maybe silver if Kemboi packs it in (as he has done with some early-fast-pace races from time to time).
He has no chance at making the 1500m team.
Making a 1500m team is about drastic pace changes, tactical awareness, and positioning. Jäger ran an incredible time, don't get me wrong, but it was also perfectly set up for him. Zero leading until the last 80m, as well as a fast early pace that led to a "grinding" style race, which is more similar to a steeple, led him to this incredible time. Hats off to him, but there is no chance he would make the 1500m team.
Congrats to Evan Jager! Opening with an 8:05 and now this . . . watch out world!
I believe this is the fastest 1500m ever for sub 8:10 steepler.
It's not bad for a 1500m specialist either.

No I believe Tahri and Mekhissi have both run faster for the 1500, though it's faster than any of the sub 8 guys
Mekhissi-Benabbad is out for the year with injuries.
He's officially top 12 all-time for Americans over 1,500m according to his website.
http://www.evanjager.com/news/portland-track-festival-1500
He now ranks:
US#1 - steeplechase (American record)
US#8 - 5,000m
US#12 - 1,500m
Talk about some great range. No one else ranks top 12 in both the 1,500m and 5,000m besides Lagat. What a great race by Jager!
And he said afterward he's definitely focusing on the steeple at USAs and then going over to Paris to run a Diamond League steeple (on July 4).
