Have you EVER been to a stadium. It's MUCH hotter than outside the stadium.

Dumb. Weather station temperatures are measure in the shade.
It's 78 degrees and humid under the midday sun, which means the track temps are going to be well over 100.
Try to keep up, kiddo.
He beat prognosis, a sub 13 guy who just won birmingham a week ago.

You are correct. No American has ever won a DL 5000 - male or female so True made history.
Speaking of history, this also was the slowest DL winning time in history.
Jonthan Gault says the previous slowest DL winning time was 13:14 by Mo Farah in Birmingham in 2013.
Increased testing might be working.
It was much hotter than 78. It's 82 right now in NY. I was very uncomfortable in the stands. Great job by true. Kept himself in the race and didn't back off at 600 meters when he fell to 5th.

At this point, True is the main threat for Rupp in the trials.
Not even close. It would be a big win for him to make the team.
It seems Ben True is best when the conditions are crappy. He got 6th in World Cross in the snow and mud and now has won a Diamond League race in 80degree heat and scorching sun. He needs more races to be run in sub-optimal conditions.
Could he be the anti-Rupp?
Better watch out, all the witch hunters will be after Ben next.

Oh my God. NEVER use "kiddo" again. Never. Especially when trying to use younger slang of "EPIC FAIL."
For those crying foul: it's important to note that True was never a full-time runner in high school or college. He was a serious cross country skier during the winters, even going so far as to quit running in favor of skiing at one point.
It wasn't until after college - and after he struggled while training with OTC in 2009 - that he dedicated all of his energies to track. Since that time, his improvement curve has been impressive, but not steep enough to merit accusations of doping. True's been on the scene for quite some time, earning a World XC berth in 2011.

Unheard of runner in college, comes from nowhere to run 13:11, then 13:02, now he's a DL champ. Give me a half hour, and I'll have a document that shows he was on testosterone in high school too.
Nice try buddy. People don't just call all fast runners dopers.
Ben True wasn't an unknown runner in HS. In fact, he was just 5 seconds behind Galen Rupp at Foot Locker in 2003 despite being a part-time runner.
Moving on to college, again despite the fact he wasn't a fulltime runner for most of his career, he was still faster than Galen Rupp early in their careers. In 2007, True ran 3:40 fot 1500. Remember when Rupp couldn't kick? His pb at the time was 3:44/4:01.
bravissimo Benjamino!
Ben's show is why I love the sport. Gutsy race in less than ideal conditions. Hats off to True and Willis for the best performance of the meet.

He has an almost-identical 5000 PR and far more racing savvy.
"Not even close"?
If not True, who do you think is the main threat to Rupp? I'll give you Lagat but that's it.

Bad weather is True-Certified.

Lauren Fleshman won the 5000 in the London 2011 DL meet.

You heard it here first:
US 5k will be True, Hill, Rupp in that order
It's not that hard to run in heat as long as you prepare for it, which almost nobody does
train in heat and you'll race better at all temperatures as your blood volume will skyrocket

I'm at the meet and it is disappointing that people are going to see the time and dismiss it. It is 90 in the stands in the shade, probably 100 degrees down on the track. Ben looked smooth and stayed patient the whole way. Beat Willis and Longsiwa in a sprint that I hadn't seen from him before. Outkicked Olympic medalists at 1500 AND 5000. The field wasn't deep, but had some scalps that Ben was able to take. The way he has been running, I would take him #1 in the US at 5k right now.
The field WAS deep. Silver/bronze medalists in 5k from 2012. Willis/True. Kipsiro/Chepseba.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
